Hart to Hart or TGIF DJ

Help ladies-

I am getting married at Timberpoint cc on 9/10/00 and I need a DJ. Hart to Hart and TGIF are the house DJ's. I have spoke to both, however I am kind of concerned because they both bashed each other. I really need to make a decision. Hart to Hart was a bit more pricy than TGIF DJ's and I TGIF has performed a wedding for our friends and they did a good job.

Does anyone have info on either? Note, that I also need them to play some Salsa music, that however, will only be about 1/4 of the music played.

Marisol, For one thing, there is no need to be limited to the house DJs. They generally pay for the privilege to be referred and may have nothing to do with their talent, etc.

Why don't you contact Rob, who has been so active on the board?

I have just sent Rob an email. I didn't know that house DJ's pay for this privilege -- that is good to know. I originally thought that they became the house DJ because of their experience and reputation.

I have seen TGIF perform at my fiancee's best friends wedding. However, the bride mentioned that they did forget to play a song that was dedicated to the bride's mom and they were suppose to have mobster hat favors and instead they showed up with the somberos.

Wedding couples, Mark is right about DJ's paying for a referral. What most people don't realize is that practically ALL vendors pay huge amounts for the priviledge of being the "house" florist, photographer,etc. Don't ever be fooled into thinking that you got a good price because of the referral. It is just the opposite. A vendor usually pays about 20% of your contract back to the caterer. That money has to be made up somewhere.

I just got married at TimberPoint on Sept. 18. You picked a wonderful place for your reception. Guests are still calling to rave about the food, service, outdoor cocktail hour, etc. As for DJ's. We actually ended up going with a band, but we met with TGIF and weren't sold on them at all. I would definitely explore other DJ's. The only advantage I found with house vendors was we weren't charged for their meals.

I am glad to hear that your wedding went nicely at Timberpoint. My fiancee and I feel in love with the place immediately. We are going to have pictures taken at the Bayard Arbortem down the road. Did you do the same?

I have played at many affairs where the "house DJ" was passed up and I was hired, for whatever the reason. I'm sure that you have been in that situation as well and would agree that the way you are treated by the management and staff of that catering facility is far different than if there were no "house" vendors.

Rob, Some caterers treat us well, and others don't. One of my gripes is when the caterer charges the customer full price for dinner,(after all we will spend over ten hours with them) and then give us salad and chicken for close to $100, each. The real rip-off is when some pre-paid guests don't show up and they still get charged for OUR dinners. And then, the customers ask if we got fed and we have to say yes and not rat out the caterer or we will get on their banned list.

Agreed! There are places where we have been that treated us as good as, or better than the guests, and then there are some places who are not so nice. I have been to places where the staff has gone out of their way to make you feel welcome or unwelcome. (Guess which one I reccomend to people?)

You also have a valid gripe with the food issue, and as you pointed out it can put us (vendors) in a difficult spot. I would say half of the weddings that I have played in my life, I was not given (food wise) what the client payed for. The truth is that it should be the responsibility of whoever is paying to insure that they get what they pay for.
