Indian 'desi' Wedding Forum
Hello Ladies!I noticed the last Desi Forum was yrs ago so I wanted to create a forum.
I'm getting married on 5/22/11 (just a few months away!) :)
Was wondering who you ladies are using for mandap decorators and makeup/hair/sari draper?
I had some bad experiences in my search. I live in Queens and made an appt for a vendor (MandapsUSA) in NJ. I go for my appt and the place is closed! I called the lady and she was like that she had just left and is at home now and cant come see me and that my appt. was not in her calendar. I was really upset about that as I had to travel from Queens!
But I'm glad I found out about their unprofessionalism now and instead on my wedding day!
I also looked in to Rangoli weddings Mandap. Has anyone used them? What do you think of them?
Hope I get responses to this forum. Thought it would be nice to create it and get help from new/to-be desi brides! :)

Re: Indian 'desi' Wedding Forum
Hi,i just booked Rangoli for our May 2011 wedding. They were highly recommened to me by my friend who got married last year and used them. I have also been to a few weddings and was quite impressed by their work. One thing i like about them is that they spend quality time during consultation and never rush during appointments. They also have latest mandaps and some of their mandaps are exclusive to them only and i have not seen them anywhere else. They also are quite reasonably priced compared to other vendors and we are using the money we saved towards more expensive centerpieces for the reception. Who did you end up booking?

Re: Indian 'desi' Wedding Forum
you should go to dulhan expo..i think there is one coming up..you can check dulhanexpo.com. the coordinator is a close friend of mine. stylish events has a desi division to it and is a recommended liwedding vendor, they have beautiful mandaps. also check the boards at the knot for more reviews of south asian vendors.

Re: Indian 'desi' Wedding Forum
Hi Ladies!I also met with Rangoli. I liked them and they are reasonably priced but we didnt know anyone that used them and we were concerned that they didnt have much experience so we went with the mandap ppl we used for our engagement which was Stylish Events.
I am using Raj Entertainment ( we used them for the engagment as well and they did a good job). My brother who got married last yr used DJ Milan, he was good too.
I can get you their info if you want.
Who are you ladies using for your mehndi? I met with someone today but shes charging just the bride $350. I was told thats too expensive. So I'm still gonna shop around.
Did you ladies decide on cake yet? Unfortunately its not included in my package so my next step is finding a cake. Any suggestions???

Re: Indian 'desi' Wedding Forum
hello, i am thinking of using kenzi for my mehendi (not too sure of her price though) but her work is very neat and clean. i am wearing a white wedding dress for the reception and my mehendi will be showing so i need it to look very neat and not runny and sloppy. i know with mehendi artists they charge by design and how intricate and detailed you want it to be. try ginni habib...i'm sure i spelled her name wrong but you can google it. ginni does hair, makeup, and mehendi. i do not know how much she will charge just for mehendi. but keep looking.my cake is included in the package at leonards.

Re: Indian 'desi' Wedding Forum
Hey everyone! I'm new here and absolutely LOST. I've been calling around so many places, and went to visit the row of halls on davenport (westchester)I have my heart set on an outdoor wedding, or at least a place with views of the water . I loved the venetian yacht club, but they don't allow outside catering on saturdays
Anyway, my question to you girls is -- do you know of any nice places by the water in NY (LI, BK, SI, even jersey) that will allow indian food, and is not going to charge me ridiculous 'facility rental' prices...considering we all have to get outside catering anyway which makes it more $$$ Thanks in advance !

Re: Indian 'desi' Wedding Forum
there's always jackson heights. my mom always tells me to not look at any of the prices when i walk in...b/c its all crap. i remember last year i bought a $950 outfit for $200 . absolutely gorgeouss dress, got so many compliments on italso, i really like utsavsarees.com -- i've bought a few stuff from there for friend's weddings and I've been satisfied with them. i like that u can enter in your own measurements, bc im so petite that i always end up having to get things tailored
hope that helped!

Re: Indian 'desi' Wedding Forum
PNK ...if you don't mind my asking -- but what made you decide between huntington hilton, melville marriott , and the sterling? (esp considering the hilton and the marriott are so close to each other)I'm now thinking maybe I'll do the ceremony at someplace like thatched cottage...and then the reception at one of those places. seems like it would actually be cheaper to do it that way (bc then i'm not 'renting out the whole day') as i keep hearing from everyone
i'm positive im going to change my mind a million times. and is it sad i'm writing this past 1am? :(
