Priest

I hope that someone can help me... to make a long story short- I need to find a priest that will be able to make it to my ceremony. I have been calling churches all over the place, but no such luck! Can someone point me in the right direction- my FH is not Catholic, but I wanted a Catholic priest there!

Please someone help!

Re: Priest

He may be booked already, but Monsignor Lisante is wonderful!

He co-officiated at our ceremony which was interfaith.

Re: Priest

Okay.... i have a lot of questions for you because this is going to affect the priest that will be allowed to do your ceremony?

1.Are you getting married in a Church???? If so, most people go to their parish church (where either they themselves, their parents or the FH's familiy are registered parishoners). Most churches ONLY marry parishoners.
if you want to get married in your church, you need to call and make an appointment with a priest (if you're having a ceremony within a Mass) or a deacon or priest (if it's ceremony only).

2. Are you getting married at the hall? If so, NO catholic priest will marry you outside the church. this is ONLY done if it's interfaith and even then there is paperwork to be completed and Pre-Cana must be completed. I believe you said your FH is not Catholic, if he's Christian, they will ask that it be done in the Church not at the hall. Most Catholics that marry inter-faith and get married at the hall marry a non-Christian (i.e. someone Jewish).

3. Have you called your church? This is really the first step. You MUST meet with a priest or a deacon. He will help you set a date, decide whether or not the church will marry you, help you with whatever paperwork or things need to be done since you're interfaith and set up Pre-Cana.

And FYI: this Father Bob Alleman is NOT a Catholic priest. He is a defrocked priest that has left the Church. I know this may sound harsh, but he is essneitally a 'rent-a-priest'. He may do weddings in a Catholic traidtion, but it is NOT valid in the eyes of the Catholic Church and it is NOT a Sacrament for the Catholic. It is only a civil marriage.

Please FM if you have questions.

What does this mean? That you are married legally but not in the eyes of the Catholic Church? For non-religious people, does that make a difference?

Sorry for this dumb question! I am not Catholic and had no idea these rules existed.

I believe that is what it means ... that the marriage will not be considered a 'sacrament' in the eyes of the church ... that the church will not have a record of the marriage.

I guess if you are not religious, it may not matter to you ...

It was important to my DH (and probably more so, his mom) ... we are interfaith, and had to get a special letter of dispensation from the church in order for the marriage to be considered a sacrament for DH. We also had to attend a special interfaith precana.

Re: Priest

I met with my priest who filled out the papework necessary for raising my children Catholic. The issue is that he won't be able to come to my ceremony. I am looking for a Catholic priest who can give us a blessing. We are getting married in an Orthodox Church, and with such short notice I am not having much luck with finding a priest!

I am using him too. Supposedly there are only 4 priests that will marry outside of a catholic church.

That is correct. He left the Roman Catholic Church and started I think the American Catholic Church. I can't remember the name. I was just told on Saturday.

You can always check out Fr Callahan- he did great for our ceremony (just FYI- he is from an order of married catholic priests, no longer associated with the Roman Catholic church).

Father Robert Allmen

I called him, but he has two weddings that day. I am not sure if he is able to make it. I don't know if I should even bother to get a priest. For the ladies who had used these priests- is it like a Catholic ceremony?
