Bank Accounts

Hi all!!

Just wondering what you guys are doing about bank accounts. We plan to go joint on everything, but I am a little concerned we are both ATM Junkies, how are we ever going to keep track of the balances with both of us hitting the ATM so often?! Sounds like a check bouncing fiasco waiting to happen. Just curious what everyone else is doing and if anyone else had the same concerns!!

Bank Accounts

Jamelle, Larry and I opened up a joint account for wedding expenses recently, but we each still maintain our own separate accounts. We plan on keeping the joint account open after we get married for bills, vacations, shared savings and household expenses, but we still are keeping our own separate bank accounts as well. That works out well for us, since we both have different spending habits, while I'm a cronic shopper, Larry is a practical saver. So when I come home with that $300 coach bag, he won't have a fit since it came out of my personal account. It's also very easy to balence our check books, since we mostly use checks for our joint account and the atm for our individual personal accounts. Hope this helps!!! good luck,

Natasha

Hi Jamelle!

Until you come up with a solution to your dilema, one temporary thought is for the both of you to make it a habbit of checking the balance in your account prior to making the withdrawal. This might save a bounced check.

Good luck and happy holidays!

Natasha, That's exactly how my wife + I do it. We have a joint account that I pay bills out of + our individual accounts that we maintain separately. (We also have individual charge cards, individual phone lines, and individual names, so we might not be the "norm')

Good luck, Mark

p.s. Remember that if you have an identity now, you might want to retain aspects of it for the future (especially if one of your old acquantances want to find you in ten years!)

Jamelle,

We have the same problem so we opened up two accounts that both link to our ATM cards - one checking and one savings. We use the savings account to withdraw cash from so we don't end up bouncing checks all the time. The checking account is off limits as far as the ATM is concerned. It works for us.

Good luck. Teresa
