outdoor weddings

I am planning to get married on LI on June 10th.,2000. I am looking for an indoor/outdoor reception area that would allow a little horseplay outside(volleyball, frisbee, barbeque?)for 150-200 guests. Open catering and services, casual and roomy. Town beaches, parks, colleges, any suggestions? Thanks!

i don't know how helpful my response is since I can't give you any names b/c I don't know of any, but you might want to try some of the resorts further out east on the Island. My best friend got married in Maine on a Sunday at a resort and made it a weekend affair. Guests arrived Friday nite and we bowled that nite, played golf, went boating, shopping, etc. on Saturday, and the happy couple got married the following day. We got the rooms at a really cheap rate b/c so many of us were spending the weekend there (a sort of mini-vacation). It was FANTASTIC!

Lessings caterers has a pavillion at Sunken Meadow state park. I think they are the largest caterers on LI and they have a great reputation.

Hi Maryellen:

You can also call the Department of Smithtown Parks and Recreation. They have Hoyt Farm in Hauppauge. I just did a picnic there and they provide Volleyball nets, horseshoes, etc. and they set everything up for you. Parking is $5.00 a car and the permit fee is about inexpensive. Beautiful place with a pavillion right by the field for sports and such. You just need a resident to obtain the permit, or maybe not for a wedding.
