Please Help! Blydenburgh Park in Smithtown for Pics!!!!

Ok, so I am so stressed & I can't take it. My church is at 2:30 in Queens and cocktail hour at 7:30 in Smithtown. I should be done with church and receiving line at like 4 and Smithtown is 1 hr away. So I would be getting there around 5. Our photographer suggested Chelsea Mansion and Westbury Gardens but we def dont have time to wait on lines there on a busy Sat or even the drive itself. Its kind of out of the way.

I wanted somewhere close to Watermill in Smithtown and then a few people recommended Blydenburgh State Park in Smithtown, which is 7 min away exactly. I am excited. Plus I am not locked in with a fee of $500 and then cant make it bec of time.

What do you girls think? Anyone been there? Will my dress get filthy there.

Re: Please Help! Blydenburgh Park in Smithtown for Pics!!!!

I lived in Smithtown for 28 years and lived 1/4 mile from Watermill...and I'll be honest....I'm not really sure where in Blydenburgh you'll be able to take pictures. I've used it for hiking trails and for the dog park. There is a little lake in there, but I've only gotten to it by going through the woods. If I were you, I'd take the trip out there check it out yourself first because there may be other areas that I've never explored that COULD be good for wedding pictures. I would try Caleb Smith State Park, which is several miles west of Watermill. In my opinion, that park has more open space when you first walk in and you can reach the lake/pond without having to trek through much dirt! There is also a large gazebo two miles south of Watermill that is part of the Nesconset Library/armory park. If I come up with any other near-Watermill picture places, I'll let you know! I'm actually going there today for a baby shower..I'm very excited as I haven't been inside there since it was renovated 20 years ago or so!

Re: Please Help! Blydenburgh Park in Smithtown for Pics!!!!

There is a way to drive up to the lake area of Blydenburgh Park without having to hike all the day, it might be difficult for limos.

While the panorama of the lake is scenic during the fall, I'm not sure its one of the best options for photos.

The Nesconset Gazebo is on Smithtown Boulevard, probably no more than 5-10 minutes from Watermill. It's kept pretty, but its just a huge white gazebo in a relatively enclosed field. There is a small stone court with a few sitting benches (you may not want to sit on in white). It's okay, but you aren't going to get muchin the way of different scenery.

I haven't been up to Caleb State Park - but it is larger with mroe open fields...

Another idea - not too far away, Hoyt Farm. They have a huge open field, a bunch fo historic cannons, a children's playground, natural trailers and a historic farmhouse turned museum and petting zoo. Could make for a lot of interesting photos - but it would mostly be open fields, farm, nature trails, and the cannons.

It's technically in Commack but its not that far away.
