Re: Average age puppies stop teething/biting?

I have done EVERYTHING possible to stop him from biting.Tell him 'no', bitter apple (he loves it), give him toys. Hes a terror. It is alot better lately but he still tries to bite our pants and stuff. Hes almost 5 months. Still little.

Re: Average age puppies stop teething/biting?

They are teething upto about 6-7 months and then when their adult teeth come in, they may start chewing more because they have to set their new permanent teeth into the jaw.

Re: Average age puppies stop teething/biting?

I think mine stopped around 6 months, but REALLY stopped when he was about 1 years old. Now, you can put your hand in his mouth, and he just won't bite!

Though he still chews everything I have! All my shoes are gone because of him! He'll chew one per each pair!

On the bright side, I do get new shoes often!

Re: Average age puppies stop teething/biting?

Rudy stopped teething just recently (6 months). He just gently puts his mouth around my hand when we play (doesn't bite down), but most of the nipping has stopped.
Sometimes when he's hyper or has to go out, he'll tug on my pants.

Re: Average age puppies stop teething/biting?

OMG that is too much... you gotta save that tooth!!

BTW...if he is chewing anything but his toy you have to tap his nose with a rolled up newspaper....not hit, just tap...it was the best way to get fascinus from chewing. I also did the nickles in a can thing, but it didn't work as well.

After about the third time he got tapped, just seeing me roll up paper will get him to stop.

Re: Average age puppies stop teething/biting?

Mine stopped after a few weeks. I tired a lot fo differnt things to et him know I wouls not tolerate it. I pulled on his collar and said 'no bite!' I ignored him and stopped playing with hom for awhile after he bit me and ocne or twice I follwed the advice that when he bites you're supposed to make a high pitched sound like a puppy would make if he were hurt. The first time it scared the crap out of my dog and he knew he'd hurt me and I emant business, afte that ehw as aimmune to it, tuggiun on his collar saying 'no bite' seemed to work the best

ETA: i have mixed feelings on the tapping on the nose thing. think that cna also cause more aggresion, if the dog tries t then nip at the paper! My trainer said if you hit the dog with anything, o r spray with water or so anything to intimidate the dog, he'll be afraid of and aggressive toward that object.

Re: Average age puppies stop teething/biting?

Bailey was young when we taught her it was NOT ok to nip and bite. Aside from teething....I would try doing the submissive position with him..roll him on his back, lay on him with most of your weight to show him who is dominant. He may also need a little whack on the behind

I normally do not like the nose thing, but most of the time you do not have to even come close to a pug's nose & it gets the message across. Pugs do not like anything coming at their nose, b/c of the way it is situated on their face. I never did this with my mini-pin, nor would I b/c their noses are different.
