Can you still have a regular menstrual cycle and have low progesterone

I will have to take progesterone suppositories when I get pregnant. When I look up what progesterone actually is, it states it's a hormone produced by the overaries which regulates menstrual cycles. I have a very regular menstrual cycle so I was confused. I am hoping the progesterone helps me not miscarry again If it works, I will be truly happy

Re: Can you still have a regular menstrual cycle and have low progesterone

Yes, I believe you can.

Progesterone will help support a pregnancy after you ovulate (luteal phase). If your progesterone is low it can result in a miscarraige. Otherwise your cycle may not be affected at all.

I do IVF and have to do progesterone shots (see avatar...ouch!) after the embryos are tranferred back to my uterus. Normally, when you ovulate, the corpeus luteum produces progesterone when it releases the egg, but since my eggs are taken, not released, I need a supplement too.

Re: Can you still have a regular menstrual cycle and have low progesterone

I have low progesterone and a shortened luteal phase. I still get my period every month- usually every 30 days or so. I am currently taking 100mg prometrium every night from ovulation to menstruation. If I get pregnant, my Dr. will be adjusting my progesterone supplements.
Hope that helps.
