Our Glam and Fabulous 10/10/14 Wedding! The Woodlands, Bravura Entertainment, North Island Photography, Frank Ahn Cinematography, Black Dahlia, Perfectly Blended by Vivian, Lancelot Limousines. This entire wedding planning process was a complete labor of love. Matt and I had a two-year engagement and were able to spend time thinking about (and saving up for!) our dream wedding. I have the most amazing husband who helped me every step of the way. We met in 2010 when we both worked for Burberry, and became fast friends before we started dating. Our wedding was the best day of my life! As wonderful as our day was, the most amazing part is that I get to spend the rest of my life with my best friend. I never thought I could be so happy. 2014 was an amazing year as both my sister and I got married. Planning with kadymry was a huge treat as well!
After two years of friendship, and one year of dating we got engaged. I was completely surprised but looking back on the day, could see that he was not acting like himself. My fiancé actually picked up the ring from the jeweler the day he proposed. He said the ring was “burning a hole in his pocket” and practically drove to my job and proposed right there. Instead we went out to dinner that night to a Mexican restaurant. When we sat down he gave me a beautiful card about how much he loved me. After dinner he was driving me home but was on Google maps looking up random things (he later told me he was looking for a park or something to drive to). We get to my house and I’m complaining about one thing or another and go to open the front door. He calls my name and I turn around and he is down on one knee, on the front stoop of my childhood home, and asks me to marry him. It was the most surreal moment of my life and the most amazing beginning to this entire journey.
My ring is perfect! My whole life I looked at pictures and dreamed of the ring I would choose if I could, and Matt was able to capture all of that into one amazing ring. Throughout our relationship we talked about rings only one time. When he asked me what type of rings I liked I googled “Vintage Engagement Rings” and sent him four pictures of some that I liked. When the time came to buy my ring, he went to a jeweler and showed them the pictures. They were able to take an aspect from all four photos and design the perfect ring. It is a princess cut with a halo and diamonds on all three sides of the band.
The Engagement Party
After looking at local restaurants to host a party, my MIL was gracious enough to host it at her beautiful home. Our closest friends and family came to celebrate with us. It was also the very first time our families met. We had such an amazing time; it was the perfect wedding kickoff event! We rented tables, chair and linens from ABC Party Rental and decorated with various Etsy items (BannerBash, TinyKiwiCreations, breelyseandco)
This website is such a wonderful tool for planning a wedding! I discovered some of my favorite vendors on here. It was so nice to have a support system of women going through the exact same thing as me. It’s been so great becoming friends with so many of you!! Wishing all the best to the 2013, 2014, 2015, and 2016 brides I got to plan with!
Asking our Bridal Party
We wanted to do something a little different and unique to ask our bridal party. I found the most beautiful cards on Etsy and we decided to mail them to our friends and family to ask them. We got such an overwhelming response when they received them. (theinspirednote, ifiwerecards, DetailsBeyondDesign, PinwheelStudio)
Pre-Cana – St. Catherine of Sienna
We had such a great Pre-Cana experience. We did a four-week program through our church where we met with two married host couples and five other engaged couples every Friday. Our host couples were awesome; they were super cool and relaxed and we all laughed like crazy. It was also a wonderful experience for Matt and I as we got a chance to talk about important issues concerning our relationship.
Bridal Shower – Davenport Press, Mineola
My sister, mother and bridal party did an amazing job! I am still in awe of all the details they put in. The Davenport Press was adorable; the perfect place for a shower. It was Burberry themed because that’s where Matt and I met. My sister decorated with Burberry check ribbon, tablecloths and had an amazing Burberry cake made by Cakes by Val. All of the games were so creative, my favorite was “Who said it?” based on statuses she pulled from our Facebook pages. It was truly a fabulous day!
Bachelorette Party – Montauk, NY
My bridesmaids and I headed out to Montauk and had a great time! So many inside jokes and memories were formed! We stayed at the Atlantic Terrace where my girls decorated it with Bachelorette Party swag! We had dinners at the Harvest and Swallow, went to Sloppy Tuna, the Gig Shack, the beach and Wolfer Vineyard.
Invitations – Smittenonpaper.com; A
Obsessed with our invitations! In the early stages of invitation research I found the website smittenonpaper.com and fell in love with a gold foil confetti invite. They were quirky and glam and totally fit our personalities and our wedding theme. Although we ordered online, the designers were really helpful and I got to change and approve proofs until they were perfect. Based out of San Francisco, they are a smaller company with beautiful and unique designs. Highly recommended!
Rehearsal Dinner – Filomena’s, Franklin Square
Our rehearsal dinner went so well! The food was so good and there was a lot of it! Loved having the most important people to us in the same room to celebrate and kick off our wedding weekend.
Ceremony – St. Catherine of Sienna, Franklin Square; A-
I’m so happy we decided to get married in a church. It was so special and something I had dreamed of since I was a little girl. Since Matt isn’t Catholic we had a ceremony instead of a full mass. The ceremony was sweet and full of love. Our priest went into the synopsis of “The Notebook” during his homily; too funny! The only “issues” was that we were running a few minutes late and the limo driver at the church called my limo driver to say the priest was getting a little upset, which was frustrating, he paused during the homily to stare down the photographer that was getting a little “flash happy, and because we didn’t have the most thorough rehearsal we were a little confused on the order to do certain things. All in all these were only things I noticed and the ceremony was close to perfect.
Reception – The Woodlands, Woodbury; A+
I can’ t say enough about our venue! All our guests had said they never even knew it existed. They raved about the ambiance of the place as well as the food!
We looked at 11 venues before selecting The Woodlands. At first we had our hearts set on getting married in Westchester County, as much of our dating life was spent there; however after looking at nine places and having reservations about all, we decided to look on Long Island. The second we walked into The Woodlands, we fell in love!! It was the most breathtaking venue I had ever seen!
They treated us, our bridal party, families and guests like royalty. The GM, Banquet Manager and Bridal Attendants became like friends throughout the planning process. There was nowhere else I could have imagined having my wedding. 1920’s mansion, one wedding at a time, great service, beautiful place and amazing food. Major rave!
Music – Bravura Entertainment; A+
I think I would have to say that Bravura was our favorite vendor; we booked them on the spot! The most professional and impressive studio and presentation! They are a strictly wedding company. We knew after meeting with the owner, Tony, we didn’t have to continue our search. State of the art equipment, beyond professional service, and the ability to customize a package with a DJ/Band combo. The second we booked, we knew we would have no worries that our reception would be amazing.
We booked a saxophone player for cocktail hour and a DJ and 3-piece band for the reception. Our dance floor was packed the whole night! We didn’t even have to give them a must play list; they kept the entire crowd going all night. Our DJ played everything from Justin Timberlake to Old School Reggae to Frank Sinatra! The most impressive part however was our band, namely Paul the lead singer/keyboard player. Paul is hands down the most talented individual I’ve ever met. He sang our first dance song (James Morrison) flawlessly, John Legend, Dean Martin etc. He was our MC, he even indulged us in an encore! My guests were obsessed!!
Photography – North Island Photography; A
Photography was a huge priority for me. I knew I wanted someone to capture every moment of our day in the most perfect way possible. The team at North Island is so sweet and accommodating. They really love what they do and take pride in every event they shoot. We definitely splurged on them as they were pricey, but after weighing all our options we felt like we got the most for our $. They are artistic and do flawless work! When people look at them they tell me they belong in Vanity Fair or Vogue magazine. Kelli was our main shooter and Carolina was our 2nd shooter. The only “issues” were that there just weren’t enough hours to take all the beautiful photos they wanted to capture and a bit of tension between them and the videographer (nobody’s fault at all, just two amazing vendors trying to do their best work). I will forever cherish these amazing photos!! If you want flawless “portrait” like photos, book them!!
Videography – Frank Ahn Films; A
Our second biggest splurge! I wanted so badly the most amazing wedding video and when I saw Frank Ahn’s work I prayed we could afford it. Frank was so wonderful and sweet and we booked him on the spot! Still waiting for our trailer but I have no doubt it will be great. Frank and his team were so lovely to work with and I highly recommend them!
Flowers – Black Dahlia; A
Flowers were one of the vendors that I dragged my feet on. I knew I wanted to save as much as possible on this category because as beautiful as they are, they don’t last. As soon as we met with Black Dahlia, I felt that our vision for the wedding came true! Cheryl and Sonia are amazing! They love what they do and work with whatever your budget is. We recommended them to friends before even seeing their final work. At our final meeting with Sonia we literally just sat with her and cracked up with our moms. So warm and friendly! Also made me realize, flowers are super important! Loved what they did to make our dream wedding come true!
Transportation – Lancelot Limousines; A+
Again, I was like ugh, who cares about transportation??; this is a boring vendor lol. However, when we met with Rob from Lancelot, we again fell in love. They are uber professional and friendly and love what they do. We got a HUGE party bus and lead car. We sat with him for over an hour just chatting about everything. I love when vendors care about you as a person and don’t just view you as $$$. Our cars were clean and fabulous; our party bus was insane! They even offered to drive us to the airport for our honeymoon and sent a stretch limo! Book them!!
Photo booth – We Love Photobooths; A-
So I learned through this planning process, if it’s not fabulous, I’m not doing it; so of course I went with the most fabulous photo booth I could find. Matt wanted one so badly, so I finally caved, and I’m glad we did! Our guests had a blast! It was an open-air booth with a glam backdrop. Instead of having a photo strip, it was a 4x6 photo. The guests got a copy and we got them all sent to us digitally the next day. They were a bit on the expensive side, but the photos were great.
Makeup – Perfectly Blended by Vivian; A
Vivian is amazing! Love her! My makeup was perfect. She did most of my bridesmaids, some pretty picky ones, and our mothers, and everyone was happy! She does beautiful work and was such a sweet and calming force on the morning of.
Hair – Lindsay Lage; A
A family friend who did both of my SIL hair on their wedding day. She was great and does beautiful work. All my girls were so happy!
Groom’s Cake – Cakes by Val; A+
Val did my sister’s groom’s cake and my shower cake as well. She is so talented!! Her work is so creative and perfect! There is nothing she can’t do! She made a beautiful (and yummy) birthday/groom’s cake for Matt. It was a hit!
Hotel Accommodations – Hilton Garden Inn, Plainview; A
We got ready their the day of the wedding and had our block there. The place is beautiful and the staff is so accommodating. Our guests were happy. We booked our shuttle through them as well. Laurie took care of everything, and I honestly had no worries. They worked with all our requests and the day of worked like clockwork.
Dress Shopping – Lovely Bridal and Wedding Atelier
I seriously thought that finding my wedding dress would be the hardest decision. That I would be trying on tons of dresses and going to many boutiques. Every dress on my Pinterest board was lacy, romantic, vintage looking. One Sunday my mom, my sister and I had back-to-back appointments at Lovely Bridal and Wedding Atelier in the city. Lovely Bridal is adorable! Very sweet staff, beautiful dresses. I tried on about 6 styles, a little of everything since this was my first time trying on dresses. I also asked to try a Hayley Paige dress I was obsessed with. It had the most beautiful crystal straps I had ever seen, but when I tried it on it was a little too “poufy” for me. I left the store a little discouraged, but ready for my next appointment. When I walked into Wedding Atelier, I talked to my consultant about what I was looking for “form fitting, flowy, lacy, and romantic.” As I tried on my first style, I saw another bride in my Hayley Paige dress! I told my consultant this was the dress I loved but the bottom didn’t look good on me. She said you know that you can buy the straps separately and put them on any dress right? My heart dropped. There was literally a plain satin fit and flare dress in the room from a previous appointment. I slipped it on, through the other dress over it, fell in love and hoped for the best. My search was done…
Wedding Dress – Martina Liana/Hayley Paige
I was so excited for my custom made dress! I handed her my credit card while still wearing it. But after I left, I was nervous. The body was nothing like I thought I would get. I had to envision the straps of one dress on the body of another. Everyone at Wedding Atelier is wonderful. At my fist fitting my consultant, the owner and various seamstresses came over to check on me. They made me feel special and right at home.
The day of, my dress was flawless. People told me they had never seen anything like it! It made the whole wedding. I never wanted to take it off!
Wedding Shoes – Giuseppe Zanotti
It’s true what they say, the dress makes the wedding. As soon as my dress was selected, I knew I needed blingy shoes to match! I’m 5’10 and only wear heels at work, but wear flats whenever I can. My wedding was no exception; I needed to be comfortable. They were perfect!
Wedding Bands – Two by London, Manhasset
We bought our wedding bands during a Wedding Band Weekend at Two by London. Working in luxury retail has its perks, friends all over! We actually were able to go to the David Tutera event. It was a really fun night!
Bridesmaid Dresses – Macy’s Manhasset
I knew I wanted a long bridesmaid dress, ideally in champagne/gold. I’m not a huge fan of strapless dresses so I wanted something with some sort of strap or sleeve. The dresses we found were perfect! Macy’s service it a little hit or miss, but they have a nice selection there.
Flower Girl Dresses – American Girl
Adorable dresses! Made the whole wedding! Got the girls last year’s holiday dress to wear (and got them the dolls to match). Not your traditional flower girl dress but fit our theme perfectly.
Mother of the Bride Dress/Tuxedos– David’s Bridal; Men’s Warehouse; B
Loved my mom’s dress and the tuxes, but the service at these two places are not the best. Shout out to the Men’s Warehouse on Lex in Manhattan and the David’s Bridal location in Queens who were truly fabulous! The rest of the locations however, provided mediocre service. My sister had issues as well but we used them as we had members of our bridal party living out of state and they have locations throughout the country. All in all we had no major issues.
Honeymoon – Sandals La Toc Regency, St. Lucia; A
After all was said and done, we got to relax on our honeymoon. Sandals is great at what they do! Excellent service; they truly pamper you. All-inclusive made it easy and relaxing. We spent most of our time on the beach or at the pool but also joined some excursions as well. We went on a boat tour (Joe Knows) to the hot springs, waterfall, mud bath and went snorkeling. Loved that we got to meet so many other couples; planning a one year anniversary trip with a couple we got close with! Would definitely go back to another Sandals location very soon.
Etsy Vendors –
A shoutout to all my AMAZING Etsy vendors! Their talent + my vision made for a perfect wedding! They helped me look creative when I am the complete opposite. Please use them for anything you need for your wedding. A+ to all!!
