Makeup for photos

I don't generally wear foundation or a lot of make-up, but I've been told, mostly by make-up artists, that I'll need it for the photos so I don't look washed out. What's the opinion from photographers. Can I get away with just doing my eyes, some blush and lipstick with perhaps a dusting of powder, or do I need the whole foundation treatment? I want some color to my face, but not so much that I look like someone else on my wedding day!

Depends on your photographer and how natural their lighting is. Lots of artificial lighting usually means more makeup. For myself, I always suggest wearing what you normally do and what is most natural to you. Look the way you want to look and that is how you'll appear in the photographs. Being comfortable counts for a lot. I don't rely on heavy lighting and use a variety of films to make it work. But that's me. Best to check with your photographer to see how they normally work.
