Re: Italian/american bands

We tried to get in touch with the Caleps when we were looking for a band but it was impossible. It seems that something happened and the band broke up into 2 bands, one is still the Caleps and the other is Voices. We left several messages for Anthony Venutto of Voices and never heard back. Then when we went to see Mirage (another Italian American band) the drummer said that he just got back from a cruise where he played with Voices. Apparently both bands play on cruise lines now or something. So I'm not so sure they even do wedding anymore!!! If you hear/know different I'd love to know.

Re: Italian/american bands

I do know they still exist because I got there phone number. They will be playing at a dinner dance at El Caribe on 3/12/04 at 8:00. I just needed to know if they are still as good as they used to be.

Re: Italian/american bands

I've been to a wedding with the 'Caleps' last March at Russo's and I wasn't all that impressed with them at all. Plain and simple...they aren't as good as they used to be. Reason number 1: After the cocktail hour, as everyone started entering the reception room to sit down, they weren't even ready, they were STILL setting up! You can tell because they were still moving things, running microphone tests and keyboard try outs....they ended up starting to play late. We were all literally sitting there and I thought to myself, I can't believe this, how unprofessional. Reason number 2: I really don't think they were worth the amount of money they charge, way overpriced! Reason number 3: the only singer that sounded good was Angelo Venuto and the female singer, all the rest were old men and they didn't sound too great. So thats my review. Sorry for the info, but that was what I witnessed. If you do consider them as your band, please take this stuff into consideration when speaking with them. I'm sure you wouldn't want that stuff to happen. Good Luck.

Re: Italian/american bands

I've been hearing mixed things about the caleps, both good and bad. The bad, same as what you said, they aren't as good as they used to be. I'm going to see the strings on monday the 8th at the staten island hilton. I heard they are good too and they are cousins with the caleps. I'll let you what happens.
Also, I'm going to see MGM this weekend. What do you think about them?

Re: Italian/american bands

Now your talking when your mentioning MGM and Strings. At least these bands are worth the money their charging! My sister had MGM ten years ago, and till this day everyone remembers how wonderful they were...completely professional! I just wish they had a female singer. Strings is also a great band, totally worth it and the female singer is wonderful! Thats why I picked them and their price was reasonable.

Did Charlie of Strings tell you they were playing at the Staten Island Hilton, this Monday? What kind of a party or function are they playing at? Do you have to let him know your going? Let me know the info because I may want to go see them play! Thanks.
