That I just recently cancelled my reception at EAST WINDS ESTATE FOR 10/27/06-My story and my reasoning why can be found in 06' brides forum...

ETA: I take back every good thing I ever said about this place...The facility in itself is gorgeous...but IMO the people are pretty sad....Trying to scam a man who is over seas fighting for his county.... PATHETIC!!!!

Contact consumer affairs....do homework on your halls before you book...the info is free...and I just wish I wouldve done the same!!!!!!!

Thank you Nicole, IRS2005, and anyone else who opened my eyes to the 'laws'

My contract says... I only get my money back (right now they have about 1/4 of the money....which is a few grand) if they re-book...????

Anyone know anything about this???

it is suffolk county law that if you cancel with a catering hall more than 6 months in advance, you are entitled to receive your entire deposit back, less $100.

Hmm.... My contract says the exact same..but with the clause that they have to rebook the room...

Someone from here sent me a copy of the 'law' and it stated they only have to give you the refund if they rebook the room...

Where did you get your info... and where can I read up on this...thanks!

Did you get your money back?

They can't add a clause and expect you to follow it. The law is the law. If you cancel 6 months prior, whether they re-book or not, they have to give you your money back minus $100. Period.

I cancelled a Suffolk Hall and all I did was send them a certified, return receipt requested letter stating that I was cancelling my wedding effective that date. I asked that my check be mailed to me or that they contact me so that I could pick up a refund. They did and my DH went and picked it up. Simple as that. Don't let them bully you, it sounds like you're caring more about their 'clause' than the law! Good luck!

When I spoke to east wind... they said they're really busy this Jan and Feb, and could I wait til March

Too busy to write out a check...PLEASE

Have you sent the letter yet? I ask because Jan or Feb may be 6 montghs or less from your original date (I'm not sure when it was) and I think you should send that cancel letter NOW. That way there are no excuses...you cancelled with more than 6 months, period.
