Can I wear a white dress to an engagement party?

I am going to FH's friend's engagement party. Can I wear a white dress? Here is a pic of a dress I like. It is called ivory but looks white to me and if there is a no-white rule then I would definitely not wear it.

i wouldnt wear white. i am sure the bride to be is going to be in white, ivory or silver, and even if she not wearing one of those colors, i still dont think its okay. you dont want to 'steal her thunder'

I don't know if there is a 'rule', but I don't think I would wear a White Dress to Anyone's Wedding Related Party - Just because I plan on wearing White to my RD and Bachelorette - and would to my shower, but It's a surprise - I might just be being a brat though....LOL!!! good luck!!

That is what I was thinking but I was not sure. I know you cant wear white to a wedding but I was not sure about other wedding-related parties. Thanks.

I wouldn't wear white to one because I wore white to my own e-party and if anyone else had I think I would have been upset...I would stay away from any wedding-ish colors!

Honestly - I disagree with everyone - I do not think there's any rule of the sort, and I personally don't know anyone that wore white to their engagement party. Haven't been to many though. If you are still on the fence, don't, but I really have never heard of any problems with this.

I wore an all-white sundress to my engagement party but it was on the casual side and one of my friends wore a white dress (similar to mine) with a few pink flowers on it. I didn't care at all!

Maybe ask the bride?

hmm it all depends on the bride- my BM who is also my best friend asked me if she could wear a white dress (i wore a black dress) I didn't mind at all.

I wore a white patterned dress to my eparty and one of my girlfriends wore an all white dress and it did not bother me at all. I think it depends on the person.

I just LOVE the way white looks in the summer.

I am not going to wear it though.

you know, I was at a shower this past weekend and a majority of the women were wearing white! I was surprised. I didnt wear white, thought it should be reserved for the bride. I dont think I would wear white to any wedding related event - just me

I agree as well. My mom's famous quote 'When in doubt, don't!' Can apply to so many things!

I didn't even think of wearing white to my engagement party nor do I think there is a rule that you as a guest can't wear white now if it was the wedding then I would say no
