Can Japanese fighting fish jump out of the bowl?
When I came into work this morning, my fish was not in his bowl when I went to feed him - I found him on the floor (dead of course) and behind my PC tower. It looked like he had been there overnight I don't know if he jumped or if someone plucked him out? I don't have any enemies here! My friend said it is either a suicide or a homicide!

Oh, the things you read on LIW!!I'm sorry about your fish, but this post subject is making me giggle
I think they do jump, actually. My mom had some angel fish that jumped out of the tank when she was little.
Otherwise, maybe the cleaning person accidentally knocked your bowl over and made it look like the fish jumped out

Re: Can Japanese fighting fish jump out of the bowl?
Ever since I can remember, I've always had bettas. Unfortunately, they are well known for jumping out of their tanks. From what I was told their natural habitats are small puddles of water in japan and they usually jump to other puddles in order to mate. Most betta tanks come with lids to avoid this from happening.Im sorry to hear about your fish. I just recently lost mine too, so I know its a little bit tough.

I had a goldfish who committed suicide. It was so bizarre because I didn't even know goldfish could jump!

Me personally, I would stick to the bettas. I love them so much. I bought a cute tank that has a divider that you can put two of them in. It's funny to watch them sometimes try to get at each other and blow up their gills, or whatever they are.

Re: Can Japanese fighting fish jump out of the bowl?
I would suggest getting another betta. Gold fish secrete urine that has a high concentration of ammonia. More so than any other fish. You have to constantly change their water in order to avoid the acidity from the ammonia from getting too high in the tank. Especially if its a small tank. If you are going to get a goldfish, I would suggest either a 3 or 5 gallon tank with a small filter so you only have to change the water once a week.Welcome New Vendors
