How far in advance should you order Bridesmaid dresses

Does anyone know a basic timeing for this? My wedding is in May, I've been looking with my BMs and am close to making a decision but my MOH lives out of state and won't be able to get to LI until mid-Oct. Is that too late? Should I have her call in her measurements? I was really hoping to have the whole party go and take measurements and order the dresses all together and then all go out to lunch or something. Not everyone knows each other so I thought it would be nice.

This is what we did:
Ordered BM dresses late November
Dresses came in mid-January
Fittings started April
Wedding in June

I think ordering in October would be fine for your May wedding

I ordered mine in april for my october wedding. they came in in august

I got married this past may, and we ordered the BM dresses in October. They came in February. They started fittings in April.

Thanks everyone, I feel so much better about waiting for my MOH. I originally thought October would be OK but it seems like everyone pushes you to do it RIGHT NOW. Thanks!

It's typically 6 months. You can wait for her, but don't worry about having anybody take measurements in their hometown and calling them in. All of my BM were from OOT and had to call theirs in.
