Sanitest? - *Update we found someone to do it!
Hi!This is a question for all you savvy home people. I have no idea what sanitest is. My Mom said it was something like wallpaper. Anyway my Grandma has sanitest in her kitchen and bathroom that needs to be taken down and replaced and no one seems to want the job. She called 4 painters that also do wallpaper and they didn't want the job. Do you know anyone that does this or can help me finding one? Thanks!
Kim
ETS - 5/28/04 - So after calling 15 wallpaper people we found 2 people that actually deal with this stuff. They are both coming to give estimates. Hopefully 1 of the 2 will work out. What a pain! So thanks to everyone for the suggestions and help!

Re: Sanitest?
all I can say is it is a b@tch to take down (although easier than wallpaper...)Satatest has a fiber-grid backing so it 'peels' off of the wall in big strips, the only problem is, is sometimes all the fiber doesn't come off and you have 'hairy' walls like us. Ours was up 20 years and it was foil to boot! When we pulled it, some of the wall came too.. we have to pay someone to skimcoat the walls!
I don't know if you can see the shape the wall was in when we pulled it down ...

Re: Sanitest?
The after looks awesome. Is that the correct wat to spell it 'statatest'? So you didn't have someone do it you pulled it down yourself. Crazy!Kim

Re: Sanitest?
I rememebr it's not spelled like it sounds but I'm not sure, I cannot find it one the net ...We did it ourselves ... we rented a steamer from Home Depot, $21 per day and sooooooooooooooooooooooooo worth it!!!!
We also bought 'Diff' but becausae it was foil and not a paper it only helped afer we ripped it down to pick up the extra fibers

Re: Sanitest?
It is like a thicker wall paper almost fabric like. Like kinda a burlap on the back of it. My parents had it in the living room and hallway and we removed it ourselves. I actually thought it was easier than the wall paper since it came off in big pieces. The only huge problem is the glue and like someone else said that Dif does wonders. Just use that and hot water and a lot of patience and it should be fine. Just don't get the sheetrock tooo wet b/c then you are going to have other problems with it bubble-ing.

Re: Sanitest?
This stuff is a nightmare. I called 10 wallpaper/painter people yesterday and only 1 called back and said that they remove that stuff. So lets hope he actually follows through with the job. The name was Tony's Painting in Malverne if anyone else has this crazy stuff on the walls. Thanks to everyone for all the tips. You guys rock!Kim
