Re: Has anyone added a overhang to their front door recently? pics included

what about adding a porch? i think it would add great curb appeal.

eta: hope you don't mind that i posted a pic of your house. got it from a previous thread of yours. just thought that it would be easier to make suggestions if people had a visual.

For the house above..I saw a few houses in the levittown area on the way to tri county with a front porch that had an over hang on it too and it looks really pretty.

Re: Has anyone added a overhang to their front door recently? pics included

I put a portico on my house and it cost about $7,500. We used Trex for the decking and beadboard on the ceiling and front. I don't have a pic handy or I'd post it. I love it!

A friend of mine who's a contractor owed me money for a real long time, so he did it for me to erase his debt. If he did it for a customer, he said he would have charged them more like $10,000. I had 2 other estimates in the $10K neighborhood.

Re: Has anyone added a overhang to their front door recently? pics included

I dunno cost but, in my opinion a porch would look great on the house posted above. We are buying a ranch and that is the first thing we would like to do (add a porch). It totally changes the look of the house.

If you have other long-term plans, I'd make sure you bring them to the attention of whoever is going to do the portico (if you go with it). You can certainly have both a dormer and portico, and they would look great - just make sure you plan accordingly.

Also, if you wanted to do a porch, it would look great too - just be careful of what all the work does to your taxes. When I go to sell my house, I know I'll need a CO for my portico, which will increase my property taxes for the next person, because the portico changed the roofline. I figure that's the next owner's problem. But if you are doing a dormer, you'll probably need permits - in which case the town will see that you've added a portico/porch - and it could affect your taxes sooner rather than later.

You are getting a new roof now, but planning on adding a double dormer in a few years? You will have to get a new roof then too. I think the portico looks great and have been thinking of doing one on our house, but had no idea it cost that much.

I think we will wait and see. We are thinking of expanding the kitchen out about 8 feet and then putting a porch on the other side. Right now we have a rear dormer and are thinking of adding a front dormer as well.

Re: Has anyone added a overhang to their front door recently? pics included

we just got the portico we got estimates of just 3k for just the portico including from alure. We also got siding and added a patio door to a new porch.......
i think it has mad such a difference to my house.
If in 5 years we decided to stay we too we do a dormer and expand towards the front. But we think the portico is soooo worth it.
