HM Review: Hawaii-- Kauai and Maui
well ladies, here is my hm review:
Kauai:
We stayed at the Marriott Resort in Lihue on Kalapaki Bay. We looooved it!!!
We were treated like royalty- people went out of their way to be nice to us. The grounds were beautiful.
They had an excellent breakfast buffet. The staff was fast and friendly. They made everything easy and relaxing.
It was 7 mins from the airport, but you'd never know it- you dont hear anything. They have a great pool and a beach.
this is a picture from our balcony of the pool.

Re: HM Review: Hawaii-- Kauai and Maui
Food in Kauai:We ate at Duke's Canoe Club, which happens on the on the Marriott's property. it is a very popular place to eat. It is on the beach and the food is excellent. it is highly rated in all the guide books.
We also ate at Aromas in the Harbor View Mall on Rice Street, which is walking distance from the Marriott. The food was excellent, as was the service and the view. The waiter was very friendly. The dinners there are pricey, but worth it!
Things to do in Kauai:
the best way to see Kauai is to drive around the island. or do a helicopter ride:
we did a helicopter ride from blue hawaii.
this is the view of the waterfall used in the movie jurassic park from the helicopter.
it was an amazing thing to do!! u see water falls, beaches and an extinct volcano.

Re: HM Review: Hawaii-- Kauai and Maui
we also went snorkeling at lydegate state park. it's good for beginners, but u have to bring your own gear and towels. We also drove to Poipu Beach. It is beautiful there.
Maui:
We stayed at the Sheraton on Kaanapali Beach. Overall, it was ok, but it was our ocean view that made it worth it! It has a great beach and an ok pool, but to rent equipment, towels, parking, food, etc is veerrrryyy expensive! The snorkeling was amazing! DH saw a sea turtle. The staff was curteous and friendly but are way overwhelmed by the number of rooms. 2x our room wasnt made up until after 4pm.
Things to do in Maui:
SHOP ON FRONT STREET!!! in Lahaina!!!
Food:
Lahaina Fish Co on Front St.
excellent food and service, ocean view. make a reservation b/c u will have a better chance of getting a seat by the water.
Maui Sunset Cafe
good food for a low price. out of the way- surfers and locals eat there. friendly service. try the fresh pineapple juice! yum! but it's a bit buggy and small.
This is the view from our hotel room:

Re: HM Review: Hawaii-- Kauai and Maui
more food in Maui:Tiki Terrace at the Kaanpali Beach Resort
we ate the traditional Hawaiian dinner. no salt, all natural just for the experience of trying an authentic Hawaiian meal. it was ok, but bland.
u got a free hula show!
Blue Maui (aka Cafe O'Lei Lahaina)
excellent view of ocean, ok service, good food, more reasonably priced
Cheeseburger in Paradise:
burgers and chicken dishes and some fish and salads. it was ok. very trendy,
not necessary to go there....
Mama's Fish House;
outrageous prices, but food was outstanding. great ocean view. make a reservation and be prepared to wait and for crowds.
if u get a drink, try the Relaxer. AMAZING!
be prepared to spend atleast $150 (and we shared 1 drink, 1 salad, 2 entrees and 1 dessert)
Old Lahaina Luau:
all drinks included in price- unlimited alcohol. friendly waitstaff. picture opportunities and crafts to buy. food was buffet style- decent food and organized. excellent and entertaining hula show and they tell the story of the hula. parking is scarce-- get there early!
us at the luau w/ our 'just maui'd' shirts

Re: HM Review: Hawaii-- Kauai and Maui
Mt. Haleakela:we drove up the volcano to see the sunrise. it was so worth it to be on the road at 2am! u are over 10k feet above sea level and the clouds!
dress very warmly and bring a flashlight and a blanket or towel to sit on and a hat , scarf and gloves. it was breathtaking! check the local weather and time of sunrise. bring snacks and water and cameras! drive safely! air is thin-- becareful not to move to fast

Re: HM Review: Hawaii-- Kauai and Maui
shopping Maui:Front Street, tons of shops (pay for parking via muni-meters $5 day/$7 night)
Whalers Village:
outdoor mall, has souvinir shops and stores like coach and a food court
Lahaia Cannery Mall:
pretty good, connected to a 24 hour grocery store and a pharmacy store
Aquarium:
what they had was great, but we wished they had more. it takes approx. 1 hour to see everything. very children oriented. very pricey for what u can see/do

The OLL... i have my FH and i booked for it in october but now i'm wondering if it's worth it. It takes a lot to impress my FH and i just don't think that he'll be entertained by it. Is it worth it? Is it worth the price?
