My Hawaiian Honeymoon Review!
Hawaii Visitor Center – A+I was referred to this site from one of my old coworkers. She said that she got the best prices from them, and she had gotten quotes from 3 other TA. You can get an instant quote online and then speak with a representative when you were serious about booking. They were very nice and knowledgeable and gave me some great ideas on where to stay and what to do. I booked the trip 10 months in advance so I was able to get some good deals. I highly recommend using them. They even sent some gifts to us while we were away; it was really nice. Here is a link to their website
Oahu – 3 days
This island does not seem like an island. It is a city and very built up. The first night we were there, we grabbed something to eat and headed off the bed at 6pm! We were a little jet lagged from the time difference. The next morning we went on a submarine excursion – it was a cool experience but not worth the price. That night we just took a walk around the city. Ate at The Big Kahuna, good for a burger and fries. The next day we went and saw Pearl Harbor. We took a tour bus there that took 5 hours because it drove you around the island a bit too. Not worth it for the tour, you can do Pearl Harbor on your own, as long as you get a ride there. That night we went on a dinner cruise and to see the show Society of Seven. The cruise was nice, it was at sunset, food was ok and the little show they put on was nice. Society of Seven was terrible. It was geared more towards an older crowd and I couldn’t wait to get out of there! Save your money on that one. The last day we just lounged around because we were leaving at 12:30.
Outrigger on Waikiki Beach – A
Very nice hotel had some nice restaurants including Dukes Canoe Club, which is very popular. They gave a bottle of champagne for our Honeymoon that was terrible! Only reason for the A and not A+, the pool was VERY small. The beach was too crowed too. We actually didn’t get to go in the pool or to the beach once since we were only there for 2 full days and we did mostly sightseeing.
Kauai – 3 Days
Wow – what a difference from Oahu. Now is when we felt like we were in Hawaii. Not much to do here other than relax and see the island, which you can do in two days. We rented a car here so one day we drove up the island one way and the next day we went up the other way. There are some really great views and things to see just by driving the coast. We saw the whole island and it only cost us $36 in gas. Renting a car here is a must. Only thing we weren’t too thrilled about was the food. Not that it was bad; there just aren’t many restaurants around.
Marriot Resort and Beach Club – A+
BEAUTIFUL HOTEL! The grounds are beautiful and so are the views. Really nice pool area, the beach is small and not many people were on the beach. All the beaches in Hawaii are small. They also have a Dukes Canoe Club. We got a bottle of champagne and chocolate covered strawberries for being on our honeymoon and we got upgraded to a pool view room instead of a garden view. Great hotel.
Maui – 6 days
It was by far the best island that we visited. A car is a must here too! We snorkeled at the Molikini crater and five graves, highly recommend, it was fun! Got up at 2 am to see the sunrise on top of Haleakela mountain, so cool - but was absolutely FREEZING! I wore a t-shirt, hoodie, jacket and the blanket from our hotel and was still freezing, the wind is pretty vicious. We did the tour of the stars at the top of the Hyatt. It was pretty cool and we some cool things through the telescope.
Old Lahiana Luau – it was nice, the food was good and so was the show. Wasn’t as great as I was expecting though. Everyone says get there early for parking, we got there 15 min early and it wasn’t early enough. Get there 30 min early.
Road to Hana – At first it was very frustrating trying to find everything but once you get the hang of it, you can see some pretty cool sights. Wear sneakers and a bathing suit and bring towels. I had on flip-flops and it was hard walking through the trails. We went swimming in one waterfall and it was COLD! We stopped at the state park that is at the end and saw the black sand beach. After the state park, you are in Hana and there is absolutely NOTHING to do there. I knew this before but I figured we would be able to get something to eat before our journey back, but I was wrong. You literally turn right around and go back. The ride back S*UCKED! It’s long and windy and your not really stopping at sights, I had to make DH pull over at one point b/c I was getting car sick. It’s about 3-31/2 hour ride back. You must leave a whole day for this and make sure you get some kind of book to tell where things are to stop or you will NEVER find anything. These trail are very hidden. I had the Maui revealed book and it was pretty good.
Warren and Annabelle’s – This is a comedy and magic show, they guy is hilarious. Check it out one night.
You must go down to Front St and shop. There are also a lot of restaurants there and that’s where we ate most of the time. We were only five minutes away. Cheeseburger in Paradise is good, Hard Rock is there and a million other places to eat. You can also see a nice sunset here too.
On our last day we went to the aquarium. I think it was over priced and not worth it, but we were killing time after we checked out and before our flight and it’s right near the airport. So unless you need to kill time, you can skip it.
Hyatt – A+
Best hotel I ever stayed at. Awesome pool, awesome views and awesome grounds. They have a few restaurants to eat in. Breakfast buffet was great. Spatt’s Italian restaurant was also great. We got leis and beads when we arrived and a bottle of champagne our second night there.
One tidbit of advice, if you are going to Oahu make it your first stop. It is great to see the island but you will be disappointed if you go there after Kauai or Maui. I’m glad that I got to go to Kauai and Oahu, but now that I have been there and already have seen it, if I was ever to back to Hawaii I would just do Maui. If it’s your first time going there, then go see the other islands too. Pearl Harbor is a must. I just wouldn’t stay at either of them for more than 3 days.
