repost of question to Newlyweds re: hyphenating name

If you did hyphenate your name, how is it working out? Please give me your negatives and positives about doing this! Thanks

Re: repost of question to Newlyweds re: hyphenating name

I posted under Brides also. I hypenated but I have not bothered to change anything yet, except order a new plate for my embosser Legally I must sign my "new" name for a mortage or house deed but as long as you are not trying to defraud anyone you can still use your "old"name too.

Re: repost of question to Newlyweds re: hyphenating name

I hyphenated...until you have all of your things changed, it can get confusing...of course now my name is 22 letters long which makes it tough to sign all the time, but other than that i like having it this way...As far as work is concerned, i only give them my married name...you would be surprised at how most people react negativly to two last names, ESPECIALLY at the dr.s office... but since both of my last names are on the bank account, it doesnt mattter which name the check comes to..

i hope this helped you..

Re: repost of question to Newlyweds re: hyphenating name

Suzanne, I am afraid if I start just giving my married name at work, ie my fh's last name and forget the first half of the hyphen ie my maiden name it is defeating the purpose of the hyphen. I don't want to lose my maiden name!! So I am not sure if hyphenating would be the best thing because I don't want people to get lazy and forget my maiden name.

Re: repost of question to Newlyweds re: hyphenating name

That is why I am not changing my name at work, and why I ordered my new embosser insert. I will not send out Christmas Cards without my hypenated name on the return address. If I start to leave it off so will everyone else.

Re: repost of question to Newlyweds re: hyphenating name

I hypenated only at the last minute when the lady at the SS offered it to me because i was having second thoughts about changing it at all...it has nothing to do with my career or anything like that... i dont mind people referring to me as my married name...but legaly i wanted to be both...

Edited to fix typos

Re: repost of question to Newlyweds re: hyphenating name

I hyphenated and it is not by choice...hubby's last name was hyphenated so I could not hyphenate an already hyphenated name. If you get my drift. I think it would have been silly to Be Jane Marie Doe-Billy-Bob...how silly would that be and so long...no one would use it not even me

My name was Jane Marie Doe
My hubby's name is John Paul Billy-Bob
My new name is Jane Marie Doe Billy-Bob, this is only done in social circles tho' Officially I have dropped my middle name and made my maiden name my new middle name. On official documents it is Jane Doe Billy-Bob. I should have just kept my name...Hey I have not changed anything yet, so it is not too late!!

I hate this hyphenating crap!!!
