Parking is awful. But my favorite restaurant is there- Sidetracks right on Queens Blvd.! There's tons of other places though- Copper Kettle, Donovan's. It's a great drinking place since there's a bar (or three) on every block. My favorite bar in the area is the Gaslight Inn. It's a tiny little pub but I just like the front table is a big slab of a tree and that's 'our' table. lol!

ETA: It's also walking distance to the new Beer Garden which I can't wait to get out to!

That's my fave restaurant!!

ETA: I didn't know the municipal lots were free after 8! Hmm, ya learn something new everyday. I never really had to deal with parking (except by my apartment, which was awful) since I lived like 2 blocks from Queens Blvd.

Re: fun streets

Stone Street in the financial district.

It is a short cobble stone block with a few great outposts (Adrienne's Pizza Bar, Financier desserts, a bar or two)....

ETA: LI - Huntington and Cold Spring Harbor both have amazing main streets....great little cafes, shops, outdoor spaces, etc.

Most people rattled off my fave nyc spots (bklyn neighborhoods, downtown nyc, etc)....

The Cloisters is an amazing warm weather destination - you could picnic and pack some booze!

Also, I didn't realize you included NJ in the mix! In that case, there is a HUGE beer garden with 52 beers on tap right in our neighborhood (Liberty Harbor)...

Liberty State Park is an awesome destination - you could do an ellis island/liberty island boat tour. You can see/experience Manhattan and Bklyn from a whole new vantage point!

I've heard amazing things about the 6 person sailboat cruise on the Americana that departs out of Jersey City
