No Penalties for Poop Delivery
TAMPA, Fla., Feb. 16 (UPI) -- The U.S. Postal Service said a mail carrier will not face penalties for delivering dog poop to a neighbor she accuses of failing to pick up after his canines.
Bruce Michaud of Tampa complained to the Postal Service last month when neighbor Toni Llauger, a mail carrier, knocked on his door while still wearing her work uniform and handed him a bag of dog feces, claiming they belonged to his dogs, the St. Petersburg (Fla.) Times reported Wednesday.
Llauger and other neighbors claim Michaud doesn't pick up after his dogs, rather he mimes the motions with plastic bags and leaves the waste behind.
Vicki Plummer of the Postal Service's consumer affairs division said the fecal delivery was a personal issue because Llauger was not on duty at the time of the incident.
'Ms. Llauger has been instructed not to wear her uniform when conducting this type of personal business,' Plummer said.
Officials said Llauger did not break any laws and will not face any penalties.

30 items removed from mans rectum
SARASOTA, Fla., Feb. 15 (UPI) -- Authorities in Florida said a homeless man sent to jail Friday was found to be concealing 30 items in a condom hidden in his rectum.
The Sarasota County Sheriff's Office said Neil Lansing, 33, had been jailed following a Friday court appearance on undisclosed charges when corrections deputies performing a routine cell block search noticed a piece of condom sticking out of Lansing's rectum, the Sarasota Herald-Tribune reported Tuesday.
Officials said they removed the condom and it was found to contain 17 blue pills, a cigarette, six matches, one flint, an empty syringe with an eraser covering the needle, a lip balm container, an unused condom, a pharmacy receipt and a coupon.
The sheriff's office said Lansing, who is being held without bond, is facing charges of possessing a drug and a tobacco product in jail.

Player banned for shoving whistle down refs throat
ROME (AFP) – An amateur footballer in Italy has been given a 20-month ban for trying to force a whistle down a referee's throat after he was sent off.
Andrea Biondi was dismissed by the referee in his Florence-based team Albereta 72's 2-2 draw at Sancat.
After being sent off for insulting the referee he grabbed the back of his head and tried to push the whistle into his mouth, the Ansa news agency reported.
Biondi continued to insult and threaten the referee as he left the field, the agency added.

Deaf dog learns sign language
KANSAS CITY, Missouri (Reuters) – A dog who couldn't hear has learned some sign language thanks to inmates at a U.S. prison and children at a school for the deaf.
Inmates at a Missouri prison trained the deaf dachshund named Sparky in sign language and then asked the Missouri School for the Deaf in Fulton to take him in.
Today, Sparky is right at home with the school's youngsters, who have taught him additional sign language. And a second deaf dog, a Boston Terrier named Petie, may be on his way to the school soon.
Superintendent Barbara Garrison approved bringing Sparky to the school.
'She really thought it would be a great learning experience for the kids,' Garrison's secretary Barbara McGrath said in an interview.
Sparky came from the South Central Correctional Center in Licking, Missouri, which has also offered Petie. Garrison is interested in taking in Petie but only if she knows it can eventually be placed in a permanent home after some sign language training, McGrath said.
Sparky responds to hand signals to sit, heel, lie down, and stop and is working on additional signs that mean 'food' or 'outside.'
Sparky and Petie come from the Puppies for Parole program of the Missouri Department of Corrections in which inmates train animals with behavioral or other issues that make them difficult to adopt.
The program saves dogs that might otherwise be euthanized and it gives inmates a constructive activity, said Tina Holland, activities coordinator at the Licking prison.
'It's been wonderful -- it's gone far beyond what we thought it would be,' Holland said. 'Their goal is just to get these dogs a home.'
