noise coming from the cabinet

we live in a 2 year old building and we haven't seen so much as a bug in the apartment.

I am such a wimp when it comes to bugs/rodents....

I opened the cabinet door with a pair of kitchen tongs....

Sounds like a mouse to me. I'd stay away from it and make you DH go through it when he gets back!

He won't be home til Thursday night. I put Slash on patrol....

Ugh. It has quieted down - the noises are infrequent but still happening...

get a mouse trap and put some pb on it. put it outside the cabinet and then open the cabinet.

We had never heard of any noises, but my cat Vixen would always sit near this one crack between the cabinets and the wall in the kitchen. One night, DH put a flashlight in between the cracks and saw a vent and what seemed to be a mouse stuck his head out!!!

But I don't think it can get out because if it could, i'm SURE Vixen would've killed it by now. We've never seen it in the apartment or heard it otherwise, but we say the same thing - 'Vixen's on patrol' - because she sits in that same spot every night watching. It's long gone by now.

I'd wait until DH comes home and then put a plan together to catch the thing!

edit: spelling

Describe the noises.

Well, we have bags of pasta in the same cabinet...so the noises were like plastic moving/crunching....

For some reason, this post made me feel better! I keep popping in and out of the kitchen....I pulled a couple of items out of the cabinet with the tongs....

We've always had a problem with mice. They always come into the house in the winter since they live on the LIRR tracks right down the block from me. And my neighbor is a pig so that doesn't help. We used to hear them in the walls next door.

Anyway, pull out the cereal boxes and see if you see any nibbles taken out of the packaging. Also check for poops. If there are neither of those things, it's probably not a mouse. If you do have mice, just put some traps in with PB on them. Just please don't get glue traps. They break my little heart.

Thank you all for your help and advice! I will investigate further but I think I am going to have to wait until Kieran returns home to start dealing with traps.

Thanks for the investigative tips jill...I will search for evidence.

I'm afraid to pick up a box of cereal and have a mouse be INSIDE....

as for evidence with our alleged mouse situation, we never found any - which is also a sign that i think it's gone!

be careful searching around!!!

AHH - good luck ... that would freak me out too. Can you call the super or landlord? You have days until K gets home.
