Spring Cleaning

Spring Cleaning

I am really reeeeally bad when it comes to getting rid of stuff.....clothes in particular.

I somehow always manage to justify keeping something and we just don't have the space for this kind of mindset.

Do you guys donate to an organization or church? Do you just throw out? Do you make a decision based on the condition of the item?

There are things I have worn in 2 or 3 seasons and I find myself thinking 'Oh, this would be cute with that....' or something along those lines.

I need some of the ORGANIZATIONAL / NEAT FREAKS out there to helppppp!

i don't throw anything out - but i do donate a lot to charity (usually just drop them off in those donation bins that are found in random parking lots). That way, i feel good about getting rid of stuff because i know someone else will benefit from it and i'm much less 'cheap'

they say you should donate anything that you haven't worn in 6 months ... if it's been that long and you still haven't worn it, you prob never will. i think it's pretty appropriate.

Re: Spring Cleaning

Every time I bring spring/summer clothes up and put fall/winter clothes away I try to go through my wardrobe. I make a bunch of piles - definitely wear, haven't worn but probably should, never wear and doesn't fit anymore. I try some tough love and give things away that I think I want to wear. I've found that only 1 thing I've given away I would have worn at least one more time...I was looking for it one day and realized I chucked it. Haven't thought of it since.

Another thing I do is with shoes and handbags - I'll put all the ones I don't use anymore to the side and ask my friends and family if they want them. It's easier to swallow if someone I know takes them.

Re: Spring Cleaning

i have a younger sister and my mom is abt my size... so we recycle clothes amongst each other- cardigans, some tshirts, tops, stuff like that

if something is super old, faded, ripped... I either throw out or donate to salvation army

I donate everything. I send donations home to my parents. A bunch of the local churches do stoop collections in their neighborhood so she puts it out for them and gives me the receipt for my taxes. Don't throw anything out unless its really really ratty!

Re: Spring Cleaning

I just cleansed my closet the other day and finally came to terms with getting rid of things i havent worn in over a year.

I bring it all to my mom and she donates it to a place (Holiday House) we have always donated near home. Some stuff ends up in the garbage.. but most we pass on to them.

i donate everything... unless it's stained or really torn up. things like old t-shirts, if they're white, i save for cleaning.

I donate to Housing Works...they'll take clothes, books, furniture, CDs, DVDs, housewares...the organization helps homeless people with HIV/AIDS obtain medical assistance, housing and employment.

It's a great cause.

Re: Spring Cleaning

I do a lot of donating during spring cleaning. With Italy coming up however my cousin and I are doing a garage sale to raise spending money for ourselves next weekend (I'm going to post about it soon for those interested). I REALLY have to start going through everything so I can get a lot of stuff to sell and not have to be so stressed about my $$ for this trip...

Donate... there are so many organizations out there... Soles4Souls takes shoe donations, Dress for Success takes business attire and then everything else I usually just bring to the Salvation army. If it's torn, stained or kind of ratty I'll just toss it. I make sure the stuff we donate is still in usable condition.
