I would suggest talking to Diwan.. they seem nice.. and their restaurant food is good.. and I've heard good things about their catering aswell... I'll find out this weekend how it really is.. I'm going to a wedding catered by them :)

My engagement party was at Antun's, in Hicksville.....they have the same catering as Diwan. Everyone loved the food! And both the owner at Diwan and Mac at Antun's were super nice.

Hi Ladies, happy diwali!!

DH's cousin took some pics at my Mehendi party, and took some good pics of the actual mehendi... i think at the end of the night we paid 2 ladies $300 but thats because we had them there for like 4 hours and they were working non stop, i think they put mehendi on like 40 people, maybe more... here are some examples...

oh her email is [email protected]

The girl in the middle pic....is that Bijal or is her name Radhika??

Re: OFFICIAL Indian 'Desi' Wedding Thread

Hi everyone,

I've been on LIWeddings for a bit, but totally didn't know there was a desi thread until I spoke with Tom (travel agent) today. Glad I found you guys!!

QUESTION: Anyone know where to get saris for my bridesmaids? I need 5 that are exactly the same, and 1 in a slightly different shade, but same design. And, how much do you think it'll cost?

Re: OFFICIAL Indian 'Desi' Wedding Thread

Yea, I'm a bit worried about that. My mom might go to India soon, so maybe I'll just pick out a sari here that I like...and tell her to go find something like it there and bring me back a few. In India, they usually have the saris on a roll....so they should have no problem cutting off 5 of the same kind.

Wow, those designs are just beautiful. Do you think she charges less for less people?

yeah im pretty sure, the total will be lower if you have less people, plus i had two people doing it so it was double the cost... it was basically Ruchi and her mom... she lives in NJ and took the train all the way to forest hills and didnt charge.... very easy going..

Re: OFFICIAL Indian 'Desi' Wedding Thread

Thanks soon2BMrsG, I'll look into that.

Yeah RGV, where are your pics??? We are all dying to see them!!

Welcome Muttham!! I had lenghas for my bm's. I think they are easier to move around in. Also, my bm's and myself are not the skinniest girls, so I don't like showing my tummy. Lenghas were the safer bet and they came out sooooo nice, ( well hopefully, they have yet to arrive from india and I ordered them back in September).

Good Luck with all the planning.

Re: OFFICIAL Indian 'Desi' Wedding Thread

Hey Ladies,

Welcome muttham - lovely alias (it means kisses in my language)
I spoke to Mac this past weekend, he did give us a fairly decent price, I am concerned about their offsite catering.. I know their food is really good, but haven't heard of anyone using them at another venue.. just need to look into that..

for mendhi, i spoke to ruchi and she said her basic bridal package begins at $350.. and plus $5 for each additional person. and i would have to go pick her up from edison on the day of and then her husband would pick her up from my house.. i guess all of that is workable.. she said she had a booking for the date i was looking for and said she'll get back if the other wedding party is willing to switch timings or something.. but overall they're were nice..

o another note.. i booked my hair/makeup person..

Hey GT - we paid 1800 but we had a lighting company create the ambiance... no fog tho... he also played the dhol with his brother at the baraat and from what i heard he kept all of DHs cousins dancing... we loved our DJ, it was DJ yogesh..

hmmm thats strange that she would ask you to pick her up.. do you live in NJ? but the pricing sounds about right... i really liked her work...
who did you choose for your makeup artist?

Re: OFFICIAL Indian 'Desi' Wedding Thread

i live about 20 mins from edison.. maybe that's why.. i saw your pictures.. and i called stat!! i am hoping that she'll be available for the day i requested!

i went with ginni for makeup.. loved her work..

btw for DJ - it can start anywhere from 1500 and up.. depends on who you want to go with.. the big names like sharad, kucha and magic mike can hit 2500 a piece!
