well said Nancy.. I am planning to save that.. b/c at times I feel so overwhelmed about things.. but not the material stuff.. seriously I could careless.. it's the emotions I guess.. the only time I was away from my parents was when I was in college.. my parents and I have a wonderful relationship and I love being with them.. and I also love FH so much but it's all so new.. and the emotions of fear, happiness and everything..

Take it one day at a time.. my eyes are welling up just thinking about how hard it will be for my dad to hand me over.. I should have been a boy!!!!

I totally know what you mean - I go through the same stuff all the time. I'm really tight w/ my family also so that's really my biggest concern. I'm really excited to start like with FH - but can't imagine leaving my family.

Re: OFFICIAL Indian 'Desi' Wedding Thread

Hey girls - btw - I went to Pier 1 over the weekend - they have a huge sale - I got a bunch of stuff for my center pieces - for 75% off!!! Does anyone know where I can find reasonable hanging votive candles? I saw some on jamaligarden.com - which are beautiful but not very cost effective since I need like 250.

Re: OFFICIAL Indian 'Desi' Wedding Thread

Thanks. I actually got the hair pins from a bridal store on 34th street and 6th avenue in Manhattan and they were going out of business. So I got my tiara and the pins there for 50% off. You can find great deals like that just walking around the city on your lunch break, hehehehe

Yeah I agree with you...after all the stressful stuff and family issues are done with, I'm looking forward to waking up to FH everyday and going to bed with him everynight. That's what we both have longed for for so many years (we have been dating for 8 1/2 years). So I know what you mean, time to start our new lives together!!

We wrote the mendhi and sangeet information on the main invitation at the bottom since it is taking place at my house. Then we had a seperate card for the reception information. I don't think you need to write anything crazy, just something small and to the point.

I know, my date is right around the corner. My aunts from india are coming this week and I'm soo excited to see them. Haven't seen them in like over 10 years!!!!

thats what i did with my mehndi cards also. they were on the second page in the invite.

this is how i worded it:

Please join us as we celebrate the forthcoming wedding of Jagruti:

Mehndi for the ladies to be held from 6:00 – 9:00 PM on Friday, November 16, 2007
Grah Shanti to be held at 8:30 AM on Saturday, November 17, 2007

Both events will take place at the Bride’s residence:

Please R.S.V.P. by calling (718) xxx-xxxx by November 1, 2007

jagruti!!! your pics are amazing!! wow.. what a beautiful bride you were.. even with the mishaps you glowed..

nancy - love your hair pics! are you wearing a dupatta over it or is it for the reception?

i working on decorators right now.. event decorators ring a bell? i'm just a little bummed about the cards.. not exactly what i want also it is costing us so much in shipping and stuff..

and then there is my registry to finish up.. and i'm breaking out

thanks!!

GtBride, Don't worry about it. I felt the same way you did when we were doing guest lists and all the stupid traditions and all that other nonsense that we have to follow when we don't want to. I know, I know how you are feeling. But you know what, all those feelings subside when you get closer to the big day. I am getting excited about wearing the dress, the jewelry, my shoes, having my bridesmaids all dressed up, seeing my family from all over that I haven't seen in years. The list goes on and on.

All I am trying to say is don't sweat the details, things will go wrong, people who rsvp'd won't show up, it's the norm and it will happen. If you prepare yourself for it now, you will feel much better about it later on.

Hey i'm extremely nervous, I'm hindu getting married to a Sikh and having the ceremony at the gurdwara. I will have no clue as to what to do or where to go, so I will be freaking out as well, but in a good way.

We wanted to skip over the whole wedding and go straight to the honeymoon and get married there, but remember, this is more for the families than us. More than likely they want all this big stuff more than we do, so we have to suck it up and put up with it. I will all be beautiful in the end.

Look at all the pictures of the brides on here, they look soo happy and beautiful, so don't worry, and your special day will be great!!!

i completely agree with u! i still feel that the whole wedding was more for the parents then it was for us, and as long as they were happy, we were happy. i also wanted a nice small wedding but i may as well have put a knife in my mother when i told her i'd prefer getting married at city hall and having a nice small reception.

BUT, regardless of this, it's still going to be AMAZING day no matter how many things you wish you could have done differently and no matter how many things go wrong ( and remember, i had PLENTY of things go wrong!!)

once the day is here, all your worries will be gone and u'll only be focused on how happy u are!

Re: OFFICIAL Indian 'Desi' Wedding Thread

What does everyone have left to do?

I feel like I have so much left....and I'm tired...I don't want to do anymore.

We still have to book a DJ, figure out our invites (I think we're making them), I have to book hair & make up, get shoes, tiarra, veil, doj, block rooms at a hotel, book rd, buy gifts, make favors, order tuxes......and after all that big stuff....then we gotta get to the details!! ahhhhh

Have you tried pedestals? We met with Vinnie (if you go, tell him Preethi sent you)

We also met with Burtons and I've also heard Flower Barn is pretty good
