My fitting is wednesday, I have a hoop skirt, but now it is looking rediculous to me. I may have to buy another kind of slip to make my ball gown poofy.

i am! I think it looks better -it is your wedding day, you should be a little poofy - you could always take it off at the reception.

I wore one and had no problems sitting down. It was a bit of a nuisance though because the weight of the dress kept pushing the hoop down off my waist (it was a drop waist dress) so I was continuously going under my dress and pulling it back up.
It was much lighter than a crinoline though, and the huge ballgown made for nice pictures.
Edited to say, if you decide to wear one, I can't see how you could take it off at the reception. Mine raised my hemline by at least 3-4 inches. If I took it off, the dress would have been deflated AND dragging on the floor.

Another benefit I've heard is that it's a lot cooler to wear the hoop skirt rather than crinoline. If you're wedding is in the summer, it might be a good option.

Another thing: at my first fitting I adjusted the hoops down because the dress just felt way too poufy, but when I looked at the pictures, it wasn't as big as I wanted it to look. It LOOKS so much bigger in a mirror and FEELS so much bigger in person and that it will photograph.
In the end I actually ended up pulling the hoops out to full circumference, because every consecutive fitting, I would look at the pics and think 'not ballgown enough'! LOL So don't just go by what you see in the mirror. Everytime I looked in the mirror, I thought 'HUGE' but I'm really happy with how it looked in pics (definately not nearly as big as it felt) Bring a camera and have someone take a full body shot so you can see what your pics will look like.

I also have a hoop skirt and am very worried about sitting down. I have no crinoline at all just 4 big hoops. I am afraid that when they lift me up on the chair everyone will get a 'favor I wasn't planning on giving'. If you know what I mean

I used to wear dresses with hoop skirts when I was younger (long story). Very uncomfortable.Plus I am a shortie. So I always had to sit at the edge of a chair so the entire hoop wouldn't pop up! I wouldn't want to be running to the bathroom or pulling and tugging at my dress the day of my wedding.

I am stressed, my fitting is tomorrow. I had a nightmare that my dress was black and that it didnt fit!

I was just havign second thoughts about my hoop skirt as well until I tried it on!! HOLY MOLY!! Watch out and back up!! this thing is HUGE!! I love it!!

I really think the weight of my gown will keep the hoop under control, but I dont know if it will look right under my gown!
