Pre Cana Night #3

Pre Cana Night #3

So tonight we discussed 'Marriage and the world' and how other marriages and even the media can have negative and positive effects on your marriage. It was really interesting.

FH outed me. WHen they talked about distractions in a marriage ( TV, computer, hobbies) he pointed at me and said 'LONG ISLAND WEDDINGS' it was pretty embarassing

i liked it bc we thought about how lucky we are that both of our parents are still together and how that influences us PLUS we see SOME marriages around us that we know we DONT want to be like . . . .

3 down 3 to go!

I am glad you had a good night. I start Pre Cana in August, but we only have to go to two. Why do you have so many days and where are you going to do it?

We are at Our Lady of Grace in Howard Beach it is 6 Thursdays from 8 to 10

well really it is more like 4 Thursdays because the first day was 20 minutes just to see which couple we would be working with and the last Thursday is a party

Oh wow it seems like a lot of people are doing there's now...I'm wondering if I should jump on the bandwagon and well get it over with so that's one less thing to worry about.

What do you think is better...to do the 1 meeting for 1 night each week or to do the weekend? I'm leaning more towards the 1 meeting per week

i think it would be better to get it all over with - if you are thinking about scheduling and all that

but i chose to do it in my parish and i am glad i did for a few reasons

1. i am meeting people from my neighborhood and getting to know people that i knew already even better - i already exchanged emails with a girl i have know for YEARS but only talked to her when we ran into eachother

2. the couple who is doing it lives down the block from me - and they are SO NICE - i am so glad that i got to do it with them and now i will probably see them in church etc.

3. since it is broken up into segments - each week has a 'theme' so for the weeks in between we actually talk about stuff that we learned and try to act it out ( like learning how to fight without 'hitting below the belt' and using 'I feel' instead of 'YOU make me feel' statements'

4. We work for an hour - then have a coffee break, then chat for another hour - I would DEFINITELY lose interest if i had to do a few hours all at once.

You know Matilde you made a GREAT point. I do think both me and FH will be able to get alot out of pre-cana but with what you mentioned I think the once a week sessions we might get more out of them. It would be good to use what we discuss in each session the time in between. Plus FH can't concentrate on anything for more than like 8 seconds so the 2 hour intervals (or however long it will be) I think he'll have an easier time actually listening instead of a full day where he's sitting in a corner banging his head on the wall
