Mini-review Inn at New Hyde Park
Last night I went to an engagement party at the Inn at New Hyde Park. There were some things I really liked and some things I didn't like so much. I'm going to be completely honest here, in the hopes of it being helpful to others.
When we got there we pulled into the valet lot and saw people walking from the side valet lot to the front of the building. My grandma walks with a walker (she usually goes in a wheelchair but she didnt want to take it last night). We knew walking all the way to the front on this cobblestone path wouldn't really work for us so we had to back up onto Jericho to drop her off in the front. I know they are in the middle of rennovations but I felt really turned off by this. I thought there should at least be an available door for people with special needs.
Once we pulled up to the front there was an open parking spot so we took that spot. The steps are incredibly narrow to get up the stairs - there's just two but still. Rude people could hardly wait to get in and practically pushed my grandma out of the way. Once we got in we checked our coats and some girl who worked there asked 'can I help you?' I thought this was odd phrasing but okay... we followed others we saw going into the room.
The room was beautiful. There were chair covers and bottles of white and red wine on the tables. I dont know if this is an add on or if it's included. Not sure what the name of the room was but I would say it fits under 150. Someone mentioned there being an even bigger room.
Right away we were asked if we wanted drinks - I liked that. I hate HAVING to go to the bar, I like when the waiters get the drinks for you. There was a table set up in the middle of the dance floor with salad type stuff. I had mozzerella and tomatoes and some crudite. It was good.
There were waiters and waitresses walking around with hors d'vores. They would come to each table which was nice for those who weren't walking around and mingling. Everytime someone came over with one they would say 'would you like one?' FH commented to me that since everyone asks what is it, they should say 'would you like a mini crab cake... cheese puff etc'. I had a mini lamb chop, an incredibly hot burn your tongue crab cake, something that had meat and mushrooms in it and a chicken skewer. They were all good except the chicken - it was really bland.
The appetizer was a salad with shrimp and asparagus. The asparagus was a little overcooked and the shrimp was not deveined. That grossed me out so I didn't eat my salad.
The dinner was a choice of filet mignon, chicken princess, lamb chops, stuffed shrimp, a vegetable purse or grilled salmon. I got the salmon and FH got the filet mignon. Since we had our tasting at our RH, no steak has compared to the filet mignon we had but this one was pretty good. My salmon was also good. It was served with broccoli and potatoes.
The staff continued to ask if we wanted drinks but never came around to refill the water glasses. There wasn't any water on the table to refill it yourself either.
The staff was attentive otherwise, they would ask before taking things away. Dessert was a banana split and cake. I didn't eat the cake but I had some of the banana split. It was good. I wasn't at the table when they came around to pour the coffee and they never came back around again. I wanted coffee so that made me a little annoyed. There was no water to drink and I didn't want to have cake and wine so I just didn't eat the cake.
Bathrooms were okay... I dont think they were redone. It seemed to me that there was only one bathroom for all of the functions that were taking place. The lines were long each time I went to the bathroom. The last time I went and there was no toilet paper and it was pretty messy.
Overall, the room was beautiful. Even though the future bride's dad was running late, they made up for lost time once he arrived without making anything feel rushed. It ended promptly at 11:00.
Hope this helps. Let me know if you have any questions!
