Anyone see a sale on Pindar Autumn Gold anywhere? UPDATE! :-)
looking for a good price right now...
thanks!
UPDATE... the best prices I found were Salwan Liquors (thanks, Kara!) - 5.97, plus an extra 5% off of 18 bottles, but they would have been in a pain in the neck to try to get to in the next two weeks.
I called Post Liquors in Syosset and for 18 bottles, they shockingly came to 5.94 each, after their 15% discount! ($6.99 plus 15% off).
Plus I got one of my readers HER gift (a nice German Riesling, which I also got 15% off of, so that was $22 instead of $26)...
AND the guys at POST were SO nice and helpful. And they're doing a wine tasting tonight in the store... I soooo want to go!
so I checked TWO things off my to-do list on my lunch break!!
(and I got myself a bottle of Malibu Rum... wahoo!)

Not sure about Autumn Gold specifically, but the best prices I have seen on Pindar wines are at the National Wholesale Liquidators wine store in West Hempstead (on Hempstead Tpke) and also at a wine store in Rockville Centre on Merrick Road and Sunrise (can't remember the name right now!)
Most places give a discount if you buy 6 bottles or a case. You should ask about that if you are buying a lot.

Just remember, even though it sounds counter-intuitive, it is almost ALWAYS cheaper to buy from a wine store rather than directly from the vineyard. With the rare exception of some reserves (many of which you cannot find in local stores, anyway), it's cheaper to get it from a wine store than the vineyard... so don't order direct from Pindar!

have you tried your local wine stores? most of them carry pindar wine - I got some here (in queens) for a pretty good price. (not sure if you want to travel into queens for your wine though)

try liquor stores!!
lol i'm just FULL of useful info-- sorry though, i don't have very many GOOD suggestions-- i can guess that maybe pindar (out east) would have a factory outlet somewhere or a place you can buy them wholesale-- give them a call. also, try calling distributors.

FH and I are - uh - close with our local wine sellers. We keep a pretty big collection at home and are rather fond of the LI wines. I will ask FH when we get home tonight the exact reasoning again. It was explained to us by one of our favorite LI wine sellers not too long ago. I believe it's because vineyards have a local monopoly in a lot of ways -- they don't sell to wine stores nearby the vineyard so people have to go direct to the vineyard or father away to get the wine. Meanwhile, liquor stores get the bottles for wholesale value and to stay competitive with other local sellers can only make the bottles up a certain percetnage. The vineyards are the sole suppliers in that area -- or are selling online to people who cannot get the wine locally... so they are able to charge (and get) a premium.
Again, I'll double-check with FH again tonight. I may be missing part of the reasoning. Sounds ridiculous - but it's true, especially with Long Island wines, but even with some CA wines, too.

Yes, seriously!
Price some LI wines at your local liquor store and then go price them online directly from the vineyards. I've seen some bottles (like Pindar's Mythology) as much as $8 cheaper than vineyard price in local liquor stores. Pythagoras is at least $3 cheaper in local stores.
I'm not sure what they're getting for Autumn Gold from the vineyard, but I've seen it around $7.
ETF prices and also to add -- Autumn Gold sells on the Pindar site for $8.99. It's usually a couple bucks cheaper at liquor stores.
So far, best price I found on Pythagoras was at National Wholesale Liquidators for $8.95 (as opposed to $14 from Pindar)... I think they carry Autumn Gold, too, so I'd look there. The RVC wine store has good deals, too. THat was the best price I could find on Mythology. $21.99 on a bottle that's usually around $30.

Re: Anyone see a sale on Pindar Autumn Gold anywhere?
Okay, I'm pretty sure this is the wine store in West Hempstead I was talking about. It's in the same building as the Liquidators.
Salwan Liquors Incorporated 125 Hempstead Tpke West Hempstead, NY 11552 (516) 539-1300
They have excellent prices, so it's worth calling to see if they carry it, how much they charge, and if they give a case (or 6 bottle) discount.
Usually, it's 10% off 6 bottles and either 15 or 20% off a case.
Another place to call is Park Ave Wine in Long Beach. They may be alittle pricier per bottle, but they have an excellent case and six bottle discount. They carry Autumn Gold and the owners are really nice.
Here is the info for the store in RVC:
Bargain Liquors Incorporated 172 Sunrise Hwy Rockville Centre, NY 11570 (516) 766-5200
Not sure about their discounts for half and full cases, but their prices are generally really good, and they carry Autumn Gold if I am remembering correctly...
HTH - Good luck!

No problem -- I'd call liquor stores near you, too (no idea where you live!)... It's a popular wine, so many places have it. Always ask about the discount, too!

Or if you're in Nassau, there is one in Westbury, too. I'd call first, though, as I've never seen LI wines in the Westbury store (never been to another Costco wine store).
