Awww, I LOVE him!! HUGE, AMAZING UPDATE!!!
Okay, I'll preface this by saying that FH, as much as I love him, is not big on random surprises and things like that... but this is SO CUTE. At least, I think it is!
We commute to work together in the morning (we work in NYC). Every once in a while, when we walk past the Godiva store on our way to work in the morning, I tell him how I want to go in there and get some fresh chocolates - especially chocolate covered caramels... but I never do.
Today was one of those mornings where I said it, but I say it at least once a week (and I'd yet to go). So, I finally decided today was the day and walked over there to get some around noon. It's about 4-5 blocks from my office.
I'm ordering and someone else walks into the store and orders sort of the same thing I am, but I'm picking out more stuff and not at all paying attention.
Then this other person swats me with the papers he's holding. I turn around, and it's FH! He scared the crap out of me! He said he was trying to surprise me by getting me the chocolate covered caramels, but he's apparently not very good at it. Well, I told him I was surprised, just surprised earlier than he was hoping.![]()
Now, mind you, we still BOTH walked out of there with bags of Godiva, so tonight will be delicious!
I thought it was sooooooo sweet that he was going to surprise me. I've been talking about it forever and haven't done it, yet... so he had no reason to think I'd do it. I find it weird that we were there at the exact same time, both trying to surprise each other!
Anyway, we got to have lunch together after that, too, b/c he had time before his meeting! We never get to have lunch together, so it was so nice! We work 2 blocks from each other and have only met for lunch one other time... but we live together and I usually eat at my desk b/c I'm so busy...
Anyway, I thought this was a funny coincidence, but I'm a dork like that - especially funny b/c FH never tries to surprise me at all, so I was flattered that he tried today... and felt bad that I sort of ruined it. I don't think that matters, though. It was a great surprise to see him in the middle of the day!
***********************UPDATE********************
I will preface this by saying that I didn't have an e-ring, yet, so we hadn't told everyone about our engagement...
After we had lunch Friday, FH was a busy bee. He didn't have a meeting - he was on his way home!
I arrived home from work and started to walk up the stairs to our apartment. As I turned the 180 degree angle and looked up the stairs, FH was standing there, dressed in his best suit. The entrance to the living room was behind him. The room was literally filled with candles and roses. It was the most beautiful (and romantic) thing I had ever seen. He took my hand and led me into the living room... and started to tell me the most beautiful things I've ever heard... I was overwhelmed - he had tears in his eyes (something I've never seen before from him).
Then, yes, he got down on one knee and took a box out of his pocked and asked me if I'd be his wife. I was in tears (he was close, too). I told him 'OF COURSE I WILL!!' I just grabbed him and got a big hug and kiss... Then remembered the ring. hehe
He put it on my finger and it's everything I imagined it would be. It's exactly what I wanted. It's amazing, but FH is more amazing, and that's all that matters.
It was, no joke, almost exactly as I had imagined getting engaged. Oh, and then he had bought a really nice bottle of champagne and champagne flutes for us, too! (The boy went to Pier 1!!) We drank the whole bottle of champagne and just sat in the room with all the candles and roses and it was amazing.
A little explanation on why it was so special he did it at home: Friday nights have always been sacred to us. We get in our pajamas and curl up on the couch. We open a bottle of wine and order in. We watch movies or just talk and totally decompress from the week. We both look forward to Fridays all week. It's our together time. Now, this may sound ridiculous, but I wouldn't have had it ANY other way. After the champagne, we changed into our pajamas and ordered from our favorite chinese place!
Then after we ate, we opened the VERY expensive bottle of red wine FH had been saving for years for a special occasion. It did not disappoint. We just sat in the room with all the candles and roses all night long together, just talking and cuddling and me crying!
Last night he took me out for a really, really nice dinner at La Marmite. The food was amazing. We had such a good time. It was the PERFECT weekend with the man of my dreams!!!
