Call for volunteers and/or runners&walkers... UPDATED
Some of you may remember the story of our nephew who was killed in April when an SUV backed down his driveway. He was 16 months old
In his memory, a playground has been created for underpriviledged kids (A big thank you for all the support and donations for Alec's playground. The project has broken ground and the equipment is ordered)
link to more background info:Alec's thread
The playground is being dedicated/opened on the 1yr anniversary of the Alec's death (4/24)
Adriann and Bill have created a foundation to continue to support the playground through the years as well as support other children's charities (this has taken a lot of time and effort on their part and they don't want it to just end. They want a way for Alec to live on in their lives).
They're having a fundraising race the morning of April 23rd
Its about 3-4 miles around their neighborhood in Dix Hills/Huntington area. The proceeds of the race will go to the foundation.
But they need volunteers (to direct people, handle day of registration, pass out water, assemble goodie bags for the participants, etc) and runners/walkers
I'll have applications for participants and more details for those interested (like what the entry fee is, etc) in doing the race or volunteering. Its a pretty casual event so don't be intimidated if you're not a runner (lord knows I'm not)
So if anyone is interested in the race and/or dedication, please let me know and I'll share information as I get it. Thanks!
----------------------------------------
SOME ADDITIONAL INFO:
the race is SATURDAY, APRIL 23th at 9AM!!
For runners/walkers:
The entry fee will be $17 before April 15th, $20 until April 23rd and $25 day of race registration. The course is 4 miles and you can use strollers/baby joggers. Kids are absolutely welcome and there will be a half mile 'fun run' before the race.
We are in the process of obtaining raffle donations and race sponsors. We plan to have airplane tickets, local hotels and restaurants, gyms and anything else someone would be glad to win. The entry fee gets you into the raffle (and you get a race T-shirt)
Vounteers:
We will probably need about 30 volunteers for the race, and we might have a meeting the night before to organize them.
The goal is to have a fun and uplifting day for all to enjoy while celebrating Alec's life.
we've got a website now too:
(its a work in progress)
