Your readings for the ceremony?

Your readings for the ceremony?

What did you use? I am most interested to learn what you used if you opted to go with something other than the reading from Corinthians, 'Love is patient...'

Thank you!

Re: Your readings for the ceremony?

I'm not sure if it has to be a reading from the Bible, but if not...I am using Grow Old Along With Me by John Lennon. The words are so beautiful...perfect for a reading...

Grow old along with me
The best is yet to be
When our time has come
We will be as one
God bless our love
God bless our love
Grow old along with me
Two branches of one tree
Face the setting sun
When the day is done
God bless our love
God bless our love
Spending our lives together
Man and wife together
World without end
World without end
Grow old along with me
Whatever fate decrees
We will see it through
For our love is true
God bless our love
God bless our love

Re: Your readings for the ceremony?

I could go with a New Testament reading or something totally out of the Bible - I just need help!

Thank you so much for posting yours

Re: Your readings for the ceremony?

here is one we picked from the selections presented by our officiant...

{The Future Holds
the future holds such promise for two who are in love.
for what could be more precious than always thinking of the one who makes you happy, the dreams that you both hold, the love and trust that never will grow old.
theres a deep and sacred meaning in this moment of your life, as you say the vows that make you a loving husband and wife.
there's a very special promise in the life ahead of you, may each promise be fulfilled and may your dreams all come true. }

i would love to see some more readings as we have room for 1 more in our ceromony. ~lacey

Re: Your readings for the ceremony?

we did two readings. One from the bible, one not.

First Reading - Irish Wedding Blessing

May the road rise to meet you
May the wind be always at your back
May the sun shine warm upon your face
And rains fall soft upon your fields
And the light of friendship guide your paths

May God be with you and bless you
May you see your children's children
May you be poor in misfortune, rich in blessings
May you know nothing but happiness
From this day forward.

May the road rise to meet you
May the wind be always at your back
May the warm rays of sun fall upon your home
And may the hand of a friend always be near.

May green be the grass you walk on,
May blue be the skies above you,
May pure be the joys that surround you,
May true be the hearts that love you.

-------------------------

Second Reading - Mark 10:6, 13-16

But from the beginning of creation,
God made them male and female.
For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife,
and the two shall become one flesh.
So they are no longer two but one flesh.
What therefore God has joined together,
let no man put asunder

Re: Your readings for the ceremony?

I like that Mark reading.

Frosty posted the following on a different thread. It's long but maybe someone can use it. It's from Anne Morrow Lindbergh's Gift from the Sea:

One recognizes the truth of Saint Exupery''s line: Love does not consist in gazing at each other. But in looking outward together in the same direction. For in fact, man and woman are not only looking outward in the same direction, they are working outward. Here one forms ties, roots, a firm base....Here one makes oneself part of the community of men, of human society. Here the bonds of marriage are formed. For marriage, which is always spoken of as a bond, becomes actually, in this stage, many bonds, many strands, of different texture and strength, making up a web that is taut and firm. The web is fashioned of love. Yes, but many kinds of love: romantic love first, then a slow-growing devotion and, playing through these, a constantly rippling companionship. It is made of loyalties, and interdependencies, and shared experiences. It is woven of memories of meetings and conflicts; of triumphs and disappointments. It is a web of communication, a common language, and the acceptance of lack of language too, a knowledge of likes and dislikes, of habits and reactions, both physical and mental. It is a web of instincts and intuitions, and known and unknown exchanges. The web of marriage is made in the day to day living side by side, looking outward and working outward in the same direction. It is woven in space and in time of the substance of life itself…

In case anyone else is looking...

Song of Solomon 8:6-7

Set me as a seal upon your heart,
As a seal upon your arm;
For love is as strong as death,
Jealousy is cruel as the grave.
Its flashes are flashes of fire,
A most vehement flame.
Many waters cannot quench love,
Neither can floods drown it.

We're using Ecclesiastes 4:9-12 for our Bible reading and the Apache Wedding Blessing for our secular reading (we decided to have one of each ).

Re: Your readings for the ceremony?

1ST READING -

A Reading From the Book of Ecclesiastes
(sounds like ah-klee-see-az-tease)

Give generously, for your gifts will return to you later. Divide your gifts among many, for in days ahead you yourself may need much help.

When the clouds are heavy, the rains come down. When a tree falls, whether north or south, the die is cast, for there is lies.

If you wait for perfect conditions, you will never get anything done.

God’s ways are mysterious as the pathway of the wind, and as the manner in which the human spirit is infused into the little body of a baby while it is yet in it’s mothers womb.

Keep on sowing your seed, for you never know which will grow --- perhaps it all will.

This is the word of the Lord.

Thanks be to God.

2nd READING –

A Reading from the first letter of Saint Paul to the Corinthians

Brothers and sisters:
Strive eagerly for the greatest spiritual gifts.

But I shall show you a still more excellent way.

If I speak in human and angelic tongues but do not have love, I am a resounding gong or a clashing cymbal.

And if I have the gift of prophecy
And comprehend all mysteries and all knowledge;

If I have all faith so as to move mountains,
But do not have love, I am nothing.

If I give away everything I own,
And if I hand my body over so that I may boast
But do not have love, I gain nothing.

Love is patient, love is kind.
It is not jealous, it not pompous,

It is not inflated, it is not rude,
It does not seek its own interests,

It is not quick-tempered, it does not brood over injury,
It does not rejoice over wrongdoing
But rejoices with the truth.

It bears all things, believes all things,
Hopes all things, endures all things.

Love never fails.

The word of the Lord.

GOSPEL:

Don;t rememeber the name but it about 2 people walking to a village and they see another set of footprints and know that Jesus is with them (not Footprints, it's another one).
I thought it was fitting as we became husband and wife, that as we make our journey together there is god walking besides us.
