Invitation proofs... kind long... but I need your help!

Got a question for you girls who ordered your invties...

I ordered my invites and when I got the proof FH and I didn't like the font... so I changed it... then we didn't like it again and we changed it again... then again we didn't like it... and we asked it to be changed... so now this was the 3rd time that we changed the font

know its a pain in the a$$... but thats your job... so do it. but... the lady says on the phone (now the 3rd time we changed the font) 'You know there is a charge everytime you change your proof...'

I was like What? No... I didn't know there was a charge... No one ever told me...
QUESTION #1- Am I an A$$ for not assuming there was going to be a charge... she never told me of this charge... until the 3rd time we changed the proof.

QUESTION #2- Should I have to pay for the prior changes when I was never told there would be a charge?

So now I get the new one... and I like the 1 font, ... but I just noticed that it is missing wording that I feel should be there... and that I feel is not my mistake that it is missing.

The 'on' before the Saturday, the Seventh of July, and the 'at' before Three o'clock in the afternoon.

Shouldn't it say 'on' and 'at' before those two sayings???

QUESTION #3 ... so now my proof is going to be changed again... and do you feel I should have to pay for it???

QUESTION #4- Does anyone know how much these proof changes cost...

I mean if it is like 15 bucks a change then I will cough it up... but what if its like 50 bucks a change and now its going to be like over 200 bucks... just for proof changes... isn't that a little redicilous?

Please Help!

i think its like $5 per proof. i could be wrong though.

My invititations dont day on or at. Thats how the woman at my invitation store suggested it. I was not charged for a change on my proof, but I did not ask for a second proof. My prrof cost 20 dollars, so I assume a second one would have as well.

I think invitation places say everything is your fault. There are so many different ways to word an invitation, they can't really assume anything. They can only go by whats written.

To answer your questions
#1 - You are not an @$$ for not knowing. They should have told you!

#2 - I think you should only have to pay for the 3rd change because that is the only time they mentioned it to you.

QUESTION #4- Proofs are free to the max of 15 dollars.

An '06 bride chiming in . . .
the invite company I used - Nu-Art charges $15 per proof change, no charge for the first full set of proofs. Because you didn't know, you should not be charged for the changes before you were told.

I looked at my invites and they did NOT say 'on' before the date (and I checked a bunch of internet sites with sample wording and it doesn't say it there either), but the 'at' before the time is there. However, it is YOUR fault if it doesn't say what you want it to say since you supply the wording, and yes you have to pay for that new proof.

#1 - You're not an a$$. How are you supposed to know what they charge if they don't tell you???

#2 - I don't believe you should have to pay for those prior changes if they didn't tell you.

#3 - As far as the 'on' and the 'at', it's a personal preference. My invitation has it, but I've gotten plenty of others that do not have it.

#4 - My invitation company (My Gatsby) allows one set of changes then charges $20 after that I believe.

As a graphic designer and a person who works for a print shop that has inviations books these are my answers and honestly industry standards.

QUESTION #1- You should of been told that extra charges would be given if you made extra changes other then verbage or type-o's. Typographical errors and simple text changes are covered BUT yes we charge for another proof when you change the font because you picked it out IF WE PICKED IT OUT for you then no there is no charge to change it.

QUESTION #2- I would argue for a discount or a waive on charges since you were not informed.

For any added or subtracted words or edits i mean minor not a revamp of entire layout this should be covered with the first proof and not charged.

QUESTION #3 I would split it with the customer. If you didn' t notice the errors in the first proof and now you do and this is your third font change i will charge you but not that much. If you picked it up right way there would of been no extra charges.

You have to understand its time - we have to kern, check line structure, verbage, leading, etc for every time you change a font. The person should tell you this when you had walked in and picked out a font and that any change would cost you.

QUESTION #4- Depends again if its out of a book we are charged like $10 a new proof so the customer gets charged $15-$20 per proof. IF i am doing this alone as a graphic designer i may charge $25-$30 for complete changes on invitation ensemble. Then again if you went to a place that is $$$ to begin with like a design studio then they may charge you before.

I hope that helps.

FWIW, I've never seen a wedding invite that said 'on' before the date or 'at' before the time...

QUESTION #1- Am I an A$$ for not assuming there was going to be a charge... she never told me of this charge... until the 3rd time we changed the proof.
They should have told you the 1st time that there was a charge for a proof. When I ordered my invites I was told of this and decided to not even bother getting a proof. You're not an @$$ by any means, you've got a lot on your plate but let this be a lesson to you. Don't assume anything in this world is free, esp when it comes to weddings.

QUESTION #2- Should I have to pay for the prior changes when I was never told there would be a charge?
I would fight this. If they didn't notify you that there would be charges then you shouldn't have to pay for it. But if it's only $10 you might want to just save yourself the headache and give in.

The 'on' before the Saturday, the Seventh of July, and the 'at' before Three o'clock in the afternoon. Shouldn't it say 'on' and 'at' before those two sayings???
I've seen invitations done both ways and they both look perfectly acceptable. I don't think anyone's going to scrutinize the grammar on your invitations but if it's going to bother you that much, then I'd just cough up the $$ so that you feel better about it.

QUESTION #3 ... so now my proof is going to be changed again... and do you feel I should have to pay for it???
You've had 3 other opportunities to see this mistake so if you're just catching it now, yes I think you should have to pay for this proof. Think of it this way, if this was your 1st proof and she had notified you in the 1st place, you would've paid for it to be changed and get another proof.

QUESTION #4- Does anyone know how much these proof changes cost...
Not sure who you're using, but for me it was $10 for a proof.
