when you miss a phonecall & there's no voicemail...

..and it's an odd number that you definitely do no't recognize. Do you call this stranger back? Or just let it go?

Personally - I NEVER call back if I don't recognize the number. If it was important enough then they would have left a voicemail. The fact that they did not leads me to assume that they probably just dialed the wrong number.


okay, this question has derived from my own experience today. I called a number that used to belong to a friend of mine (forgetting that she had changed it a couple weeks ago). Anyway, so I suddenly realized that as it was ringing and hung up. About a minute later, the person calls me back and of course i didn't answer (because I felt awkward. lol) The odd thing is that he left me a voicemail, giving me his HOUSE NUMBER. I have no idea why. So obviously, I just ignored it. And then he called me back AGAIN, but this time left no voicemail. Odd. So i figure if he calls a third time, I'll answer and just tell him that I had the wrong number. But i thought it was very weird that he would call me back TWICE and even leave me his other number. strange. (DH thought I was such a nerd for not answering, but I was awkward. haha. Don't know why)

so anyway - what do you do? Do you call back or just ignore it? I know that DH is like me - if we don't recognize the number, we don't call back (sometimes we don't even answer either)

I call back...It's a very strong impulse of mine that I need to know who is calling me and why lol

If it's a wrong number ,which it is most of the time, I still need to know why they dialed my number in the first place!!!!

It's probably b/c I don't get any phone calls actually lol No body calls me, so maybe I am so desperate to have someone call me and want to take the time to talk to me, that I pick up the phone no matter who it is..kinda sad I guess lol Even though I HATE talking on the phone haha go figure.

I ignore the phone call. If you did not care to leave a vm (not that I check them), I dont have to return your call. Just text me and let me know what you want.
I screen my calls lol.

OMG - HE JUST CALLED ME AGAIN!!!! I didn't have my phone on me and I just found a voicemail from him. He was acting like i'm his friend, all like 'Hey this is Eddie, give me a call back' W.T.F??? who the hell IS this Eddie character? I'm bummed - i sooo wanted to answer. I'm sure he'll call again tho. what a moron.

I never call back if someone doesn't leave a message. I assume it was an accident. I kinda miss old school, no caller id, etc.

This happen to me once. I called DH cell but didn't dial 516 from our house phone which is 631. I heard some man answer and said opps sorry wrong number and hung up. Well the man must not have heard me apologize because he called back my house phone. I didn't answer and he left a nasty message on my machine. He said I should learn something about F*ck*ng manners, and who doesn't apologize. He sounded like a nut. Then he called back three more times just to let the phone ring til the machine picked up. It freaked me out. I called DH with the area code, and told him what happened. He was pisses and called the guy and I think threatened his life if he ever called back again.

So NO do not call it back. It could be someone like this crazy man. The scary part is you can look where people live by the phone number. Imagine if this guy showed up.

oh jeez, that is ridiculous. Even if you HADN'T apologized, and just hung up - what kind of loser calls back just to leave a nasty message and then even prank calls a few more times. W.T.F??? He definitely has issues.

Well, luckily i called on my cell phone. You can only really google a HOUSE number to see where they live. I mean, my area code shows what state I'm in, but that's it.

But when this Eddie freak called me that third time, it was on his house number, not his cell. I find it odd that he's so desperate that he'd actually call me again 8 hours after the original call. I mean, I only called ONCE and barely let it ring more than 3 times before I realized that it was the wrong number. If a person hangs up that quickly and did not leave a message, you have to assume they don't know you. Me & DH have a bet on whether or not he'll call me again TODAY. I'm gonna try to keep my phone on me so that I can answer and just tell him that I had dialed the wrong number. Or maybe if he calls again and I miss it, I'll just text that message to him. lol.

hmmm why dont you just call him then and say 'hey sorry i had the wrong number' this way he'll stop calling and you wont have to deal with him calling over and over again.

another theory is maybe he is waiting for a very important phone call.

Depending on what is going on in my life, i will call back every missed number. For example when i was looking for a job I did this. Whenever I missed a call, i was afraid maybe it was a potential job. Some ppl just dont leave VM, i dont always leave a vm. Sometimes somebody just would rather try again later rather than leave a vm.

Or when i was planning dh's party, i had called so many places and left messages to contact me, that i did have ppl calling me all the time with info. So if i missed call i would call back bc it was a place i was waiting to hear from.

During wedding planning, i did the same thing.
