7/11 wedding review-conclusion of review added
Hello ladies,
I have not been on the boards that much lately, but since this website has been such a helpful resource for me I wanted to make sure to post my wedding review.
Hotel-- Fox Hollow Inn
My grade B:
Well the night beofre the wedding we stayed at the Fox Hollow Inn. My DH and I stayed on opposite ends of the hotel. I was bothered by a couple of things. First, the 'bridal suite' is not that bridal and not much bigger than the regular suites. In fact I think my father's suite was larger than my bridal suite. Also, I would think that a bridal suite would have somewhere to hang a wedding dress but instead I had to hang the dress on the knob of the fire sprinkler. Not smart but I was desperate. Thank God that worked out!.
Second, since this was my last night as a 'single' girl my BMs all came by and stayed with me until about 11:30pm. One time during the night I guess we were laughing, giggling and talking too loud because one of the hotel people came by and told us he was giving us his first and last warning. He said if we did not lower the noise level he may have to kick us all ( including me!! ) out of the hotel. Apparently they have a rule that you can't have more than four people in your room at a time. It's a 'no party clause'. I explained that we were not having a party and that I was having a wedding at the Fox Hollow Inn the next day and my BMs just decided to come by. Since I knew it was late and we were kind of loud, I let it go but I wasn't pleased as I was not informed about this ' no party' clause when I booked the hotel.
On my wedding day I woke up starving. A buffet breakfast was included in the price but I really didn't feel like going downstairs and bumbing into all of my family because I was really stressed. I also feared bumping into my DH. So I called the front desk to ask if I could have someone bring me a plate. They told me no , because they only had two servers. I couldn't reach any of my family because they were already at the buffet so I did not end up having the big breakfast everyone suggests the bride to have on her big day. Luckily, the suites come with a kitchedn so my father made me lunch later on in the afternoon.
Finally, after the wedding was over (1am) my BMs and I went back to the room. They were packing their things to leave. Once again a hotel rep, came by and said that we were making too much noise and that he would be forced to call the police if this did not end. Now, here I am standing in my wedding dress, looking at this man like he must be out of his mind. First all, yes were were making noise because we were all so excited, afterall I just GOT MARRIED, but it was obvious that they were packing there things so that my DH and I could have the room. I got so angry that I went downstairs to the front desk to explain what just happened. I expected the person at the front desk to understand why I was so angry, instead, he starts telling me about their 'no party clause' . I tell them that if this is their policy then they should not encourage wedding parties and their guest to book their hotel and that my BMs and I had been in the room for less than 5 minutes before being threatened. Fortunately my brother, and mom see me screaming at this man in my wedding dress and come try to deal with the situation.
In the hotel's defense, they did tell me about the 'no party clause' when I checked in but I just think this should have been explained in detail when I booked the hotel blocks not when I'm checking in. Also the hotel staff member that threatened to call the police, also apologized later on in the evening.
My guest grade A:
My guest however loved the hotel as I expecetd they would. The place has the feel of an old english country manor and has a very warm, rich feel to it. The hotel atmosphere is great. The price includes a buffet breakfast and dinner and the suites are very nice.
Overall the place was nice but I thought the customer service was horrible. They just don't know how to treat a bride. I would definitely book the hotel for your wedding guest ( especially if your wedding is at the Fox Hollow) but think twice before you book the place for yourself.
Wedding Dress---Kleinfelds- A:
I absolutely loved my dress. They also made my veil and it was fabulous!! The alterations done were excellent and I loved my seamstress.
Tuxedos----After Hours- C:
The Long Island location is always busy and run by teenagers. They totaly neglected to order one of the GMs tux. Luckily he did not wait until the day before the wedding to pick it up so they were able to get one for him by the wedding day.
Bridal Reflections- A:
Ok, I have had a love hate relationship with this place for some time but I have to say they really came through for me. My BMs dresses looked great as did my junior BMs.
Before the wedding day, I had not found a tiara I loved. I was planning to wear the tiara that my MOH wore on her wedding day. But after getting my hair done, I realized that I just didn't like the way I looked. My MOH happened to call me as I was about to cry about the whole thing. When she went to pick up her BM gown from Bridal Reflections she told them about my situation. They understood my 'tiara emergency' and worked with her to find what I would say was the tiara I had been looking for from day one. When she came to hotel and put the tiara on my head, I almost cried because it looked absolutely stunning.
Make-up --Jennifer Nicole- A++++
I can't say enough about her work. All I have to say is that after she did my mom's make-up, she looked so beautiful. In fact better, than she has looked in years. My mother has had a rough couple of years ( my younger brother being murdered, seperating from my father, etc, etc). You could look at her and just see sadness. But for the first time in years she looked like her old self again. I could not stop looking at her, she looked so stunning!!
As for myself, I have to say that the look on my DH's face said it all. I looked amazing!! Every so often I could see my BMs looking at me. Everyone kept talking about how beautiful I looked. But most importantly I felt beautiful.
Leiny- A
I forget the name of the place but I got my hair done in a place that Curly suggested. It's a Dominican hair Salon in Nassau. She did an excellent job!
Flowers- Distinctive Designs- A-
I absolutely loved my center pieces as did the guest. I mean they looked amazing!! I gave them an A- because instead of having bouquets for my BMs, they each carried a single calla lilly. The problem was that they were supposed to be wrapped in a satin bow at the stem but they were not. My bridal assisant and maitre'd had to do this at the last minute.
Photographer- Proline- (?)
The jury is still out on this one. I have to say that I absolutely hated the demeanor of my photographer. He was very pushy ( literally and figuratively) and very loud and intrusive. My father and DH said that he was just doing his job so I tried to be patient. If I could do it over again, I would ask for a photographer who is not that intrusive. If you don't want someone screaming at you during your first dance with your husband saying ' ok now look at at the camera, raise your head a little higher' then you should do the same with this vendor or any other for that matter. But again, the jury is still out until I see the pictures.
