she said yes..... I had been thinking about proposing to my girlfriend Regina for the past month or so and on Friday August 11th, 2006, I finally did. I have always been a very spontaneous person and I knew that when the time felt right, I would act upon it... Friday afternoon I had made the decision to go down to the store and buy a ring while Regina went to the movies with her mom. When Regina and I had looked at rings in the past, she showed me 6-8 different styles of rings, so it made it very difficult for me to know exactly what she wanted. Well, I knew that the perfect ring would just have a way of standing out, and on Friday night it did... I was so excited to be purchasing an engagement ring for her, knowing that in a few hours I would be surprising her with a proposal. Since we just had our 2 year anniversary on Wednesday, I knew there was no way she could have ever expected me to propose on Friday, and I really wanted it to be a complete surprise to everyone. I had picked out the perfect ring, a beautiful, yet traditional round center stone with 2 smaller round diamonds on each side set in a shining white gold band. The entire ring sparkled.. Originally I had planned on proposing to Regina in front of her mother, but unfortunately that did not pan out, so it was a good thing I was quick on my feet and quickly convinced Regina to take a drive with me to the park at Fort Totten. For those of you who have been to my 'Signature Series' collection, it is the same location entitled 'Relaxing Reflection' a island of large rocks on the water overlooking the Bridge and New York City. We have gone to this location many times before, so it didn't raise any suspicions. Earlier in the day, I had personal cause to celebrate, so I had told Regina I had picked up a small gift (a small pair of fake earrings, that looked like real diamonds) to show her how much I appreciate her in my life. When she opened up the box, she didn't know they were fake so she was very happy to receive the gift, but because they were fake, one of the stones had come loose from the setting. This actually worked in my favor as I played it up that I was very disappointed that I wanted to get her a nice gift to show her how much I love her and how important she is to me and how I want to spend the rest of my life with her, and the gift that I had picked out for her was broken. I had then placed the pair of earrings into the bag on top of the hood of my truck, and quickly took the ring box out of my left pocket and cupped it in my right hand so she couldn't see it. As she was hugging me telling me it was ok that the earrings were broken, I had the ring in back of her head as I continued to tell her how much I loved her, and how I wanted to spend my life with her and hoped she felt the same... When she told me that she felt the same way, I then said 'Well since the earrings are broken...' (as I pulled the ring from around the back of her head and put it in front of her) 'Will this do instead?' She was so surprised and couldn't believe this was really happening, so I asked her if she would marry me and she said yes! Congratulations to Regina Madericha nd Briian D Oakes of Bethpage on their recent engagement and impending wedding planned for August 2008
