Long Island Engagement Announcements

Kalista and Dustin

Kalista & Dustin

Sunday, December 25, 2005

We are happy to announce the engagement off Kalista and Dustin and to extend our congratulations to their respective families: Jon and Teresa Hougen and Pete Pape; and Janice Moneypenny. The two, a Student/CNA and an Electrician, both from Cedar Rapids Iowa were engaged on December 25, 2005 at the Bride'sf place of work: Mercy Medical Center. 'It was our 2 1/2 year anniversary and also Christmas Day 2005 when Dustin proposed to me. I was in my senior year of high school and Dusitn was in his third year of apprenticeship and I was NOT expecting to get proposed to until a later date. I work at Mercy Medical Center on the Pulmonary Medicine unit which is also the 5th floor zone 1, so it is called 51. All I had ever told Dustin is that I work on the 5th floor. So, I was working the night shift (11 pm to 7:30 am) on Christmas night and had left Dustin's family Christmas early to get ready for work. I guess when I left, Dustin had told his family that he did not get me a Christmas present yet, because he had bought me an engagement ring. They all said that I looked sad, because I had not gotten a gift from him (which I was NOT sad, I knew he would get me something-I am spoiled!) and Dustin took that to heart. So, while Dustin was laying in bed that night and I was at work, he decided that he could not wait any longer and had to propose to me that night. Dustin went to Mercy and it was about mid-night, but he didn't consider the hospital being locked down. He tried to get in the doors and a security guard came and got him and wondered what he was doing. He explained the situation to him and the guard wanted to call me and make sure he wasn't stocking me! Dustin begged him not to, because he wanted it to be a surprise. He told them I worked on 5th floor and someone came and got him. Then, Dustin on his journey made his way to 5th floor, but zone 2. 52 is the psych ward! They must of thought that Dustin was crazy and he told them that I did NOT work on the 'behavioral unit' and asked if their was another 5th floor. Finally, I was walking down the hall on MY floor (51) taking mid-night blood sugars when I see Dustin at the other end. I went to him and thought that something really bad had happened. Dustin started to shake and cry and all of the sudden whipped out a ring and asked me to marry him. I was in complete shock. I stood there dumbfounded and still had gloves on. Dustin got a little nervous and asked if I would take my gloves off so he could put the ring on me. I told him yes and it has been history since! ' They look forward to a June 2009 celebration. We wish them all the best.
