Melanie and Javier

Melanie & Javier

Saturday, December 24, 2011

A warm welcome and congratulations to Melanie and Javier, and an extended congratulations to their respective families; Lucille and William, and Luz. Melanie, a graphic designer from Smithtown, and Javier, a truck driver from Bay Shore, were engaged on December 24, 2011 at their parent's house. 'I am usually not lovey dovey, but this is kind of funny...Christmas eve 2011 - we get to my parents house early to help out. Jav runs to Target to get some last minutes gifts for his family. He comes back with the gifts and hides a small gift bag behind his back and ran into my parents bedroom. I say 'there better be a diamond ring in there' (totally joking and honestly not thinking there was a ring in there). So my brother, his girlfriend and my parents are all getting ready for our families to come over. My brother's girlfriend gave me these giant reindeer antlers, so I put them on. I am helping my mom in the kitchen and shoving peanut M&Ms in my mouth, when Jav starts calling my name to come in the other room. I tell him 'one second' he then calls me to come in there three or four more times (typical). Usually I'd say 'what do you wanttttt' but instead I started walking to him, in the other room - as I walked in he got down on one knee...and asked me to marry him, still wearing the antlers on my head I said 'are you serious' with a mouth full of peanut M&Ms and some melting in my hand - I then said 'ugh yeahhhh'. Quickly I went to grab the ring out of the box and forgot I was supposed to let him put it on. My family came in to congratulate us and about 20 minutes after, the rest of my extended family showed up. It was awesome. We had a good xmas eve. At the end of the night we planned on sleeping at my parents - when we laid on the guest room bed, it collapsed - so midnight we drove home. Exhausted, leaving everything in the car and rushing into our apartment to find the kitchen overhead light flickering. We laugh and say 'only us' something else will probably happen (Jinx, i guess). Waking up at 7am to find out our car was broken into and all the xmas gifts and everything in the car was stolen. Although it sucked, we made the best of it all and realize that we are not only lucky to have each other but extra lucky to have the amazing friends and families that we have. We were and still are very happy and excited for our lives together - all material things are replaceable but family and friends are irreplaceable. Looking forward to fun events to come.' The happy couple is excitedly looking forward to their March 16, 2013 wedding at Chateau Caterers (Chateau Briand).
