Elvin and I dated for 6 years. After attending the weddings of many of our friends, I became anxious for Elvin to propose. In August 2011, he insisted on taking a trip to Mexico and I didn't want to go, but I was suspicious he wanted to propose. Excited, I called my mother to tell her. Little did I know, she alerted Elvin and he decided not to propose in Mexico since I would be expecting it. Each night we were there, I got dressed up thinking it was the night. When the proposal never came I was stumped. Flash forward to November and we planned a family brunch, which was nothing out of the ordinary. After stuffing my face, my mother told the waitress to bring us some dessert. When the dessert came, my ring was sparkling on top. It was so random- just an ordinary day and it caught me totally off guard. I yelled out 'What the hell is that' as I pointed to the sparkler on the cake. The whole restaurant cheered for us, I was surprised, and both of our families got to watch. So while it wasn't the proposal in paradise I had been expecting, it was a sweet and just right proposal. Now we are planning our wedding and taking in all the highs and lows that come with the process!
