Christina Smith & Mark Brown

Thursday, July 4, 2013

A warm welcome and congratulation to Christina Smith and Mark Brown, as well as an extended congratulations to their respective families; Mr. and Mrs. Scott Maltese, and Mr. Fred Smith; Mr. and Mrs. Steven Brown. Christina, an elementary art teacher from East Islip, and Mark, a special education teacher from East Patchogue, were engaged on July 4, 2013. 'We decided to spend the 4th of July by ourselves this year and make a nice dinner just the two of us. When I got to Mark's house he was not himself. He wasn't paying attention when I spoke, he wouldn't sit still for more than 5 minutes, and he was extremely quiet. Dinner was ready and we ate outside on the front porch. In the middle of dinner Mark decided to get up to use the bathroom. As he left he asked me to put his turkey burger on one of the flatbreads we bought earlier that day. I was starving and as horrible as it was, I did not want to remove my fork from my plate so I didn't do it. He came back out of the house and asked if I put his turkey burger on a flatbread for him. I said no and continued to eat my wonderful meal. He then proceeded to walk back into the house and as I asked where he was going he told me he was going to get Ketchup. Once again, he came back out of the house and asked if I put his turkey burger on a flatbread. Again, the answer was no. At that point I was just annoyed that he couldn't just do it when he sat down. He got a little angry and I already was so I jumped up, grabbed a flatbread out of the package and began to make his turkey burger. In the process of doing this he grabbed it from my hand and kept yelling that he didn't want that one. He threw it onto the table and after looking at him in disbelief that he was acting the way he was, I left dinner and walked into the house. After about a minute he came in after me and forced me to go back outside and finish my meal. I was not hungry at that point but sat outside anyway. Before I knew it, Mark was waving a flatbread in front of my face. He got down on one knee and the rest is history. I later found out that his plan was to propose while vacationing in Niagara Falls. As romantic as that sounds, I think the way he did it was perfect.' The Happy couple is looking forward to their May 21, 2015 East Wind Caterers wedding.
