2 Drowned at Long Beach

Original post by luvabul

Friday, my two brothers and a bunch of their friends went to Long Beach, the weather was great, they played volleyball, football and just relaxed, a bunch of teenagers off from school, just having a good time at the beach. The lifeguards went off duty around 6pm and being unfamiliar with Long Beach tides, they decided to just dip their feet in the water, while their best friend- a great swimmer, went a little further in. In a split of a second he was gone. A 'riptide' what they call it, a wave, took him so far out. He was no where to be seen, until they saw him stick his hand out. His cousin went to go save him. At the end 10 minutes later they got his cousin, and tried to save him, but it was too late.

The other friend is still missing. The family is devastated, his parents cant find closure, cant have a proper funeral....please pray that his body is found. We were very good family friends with both families, so in essence Two Sisters (the childrens mother) lost both their sons on one day...

Thats so sad. The riptides have been so strong everywhere this past month. I know NJ has crazy warningd for the shore. They've been having to pull people out left and right.

Lots of prayers for you honey.

I'm so sorry, my heart goes out to the families.

This literally makes my stomach hurt b/c my 15 yo has been to the beach a couple of times w/ friends this summer and commented on big the waves were and such...
I can't even imagine what the mothers are going through

I work with someone that knows them. It was his Cousin's best friend- the one that they can not find his body. I was so sad to hear it and I heard the family is having a hard time, along with the friend.

My thoughts are with them.

Is this them? Again I'm so sorry. This is so sad.

Newsday

no sadly, I think that is an UNRELATED incident...

its the rip currents... people should NOT go in the water after the life guards leave... You don't realize how strong those currents ARE...

I literally stand a foot away from my son when he's in the water this summer.. even though he doesn't go far in at ALL
