9.11.01...7 years later

I hate this day of the year.

I will never forget sitting at the tv counting the floors of the building. Trying to see where the plane hit-- if my friend could get out. I didn't know what building he was in. I didn't know what floor he was on. I just knew he was up there. after 7 hours, I finally heard from him.

My uncle used to work at Canter Fitzgerald. He went on disability shortly before the attacks-He thanks god everyday.

My heart breaks today for the families who lost loved ones.

So please, take this time to remember.

'All gave some and some gave all'

Thank you to everyone

Although I didnt lose anyone close to me this day still cuts like a knife. I sleep with the TV on at night and every 9/11 I wake up to the names being read. Its a very sad way to wake up

Re: 9.11.01...7 years later

(sorry so long) I will never forget...i worked 2 blocks from WTC...
Dh was on a plane that day heading from Israel to LA...

i told my parents how much i loved them & that if i didn't make it not to worry or be upset because i'd be partying in heaven with my grandparents and other loved ones...this was the one day in my life that i did not know if i would be going home or not...for once i was gravely aware of my mortality.

i was in my office when the towers fell...i had no idea what it was...i just heard the most horrendously loud noise...and my building shook and the lights were going on and off...it was worse when the second and closer tower fell...later my Dad told me my Mom was pounding her fists on the wall screaming my name as she watched this happen on the TV..as she thought my building was being crushed by the debris...

I think of all the parents & loved ones who had to watch the same thing and know that their children, family or loved ones didn't make it.

I could not get any info on DH or his flight...after the second tower fell my boss & i (the only ones who stayed in our office) decided to head uptown to safer grounds...i met my brother and stayed with him at his office. My brother tried to make me laugh as he made up poems about Blaine on a plane over Spain...we searched the internet and still had no info. I called Dh's Mom, Dad & sister...all of whom had no info on his where abouts. I was freaking because he was headed to LA and to me that was the next target.

Cellphones weren't working all that well and i kept trying to get my voicemails...hoping one was DH...instead it was countless friends checking in. There were many more on my answering machine at home...i was able to change my outgoing message to say i made it out of downtown and was with my brother.

My brother and i left his office around 4pm and headed to Penn...on our walk i checked my answering machine & DH had left a message saying he was rerouted somewhere over the US and was in all the way back in Switzerland. I was just happy he was alive, and he was just as releived since they made an announcement on the plane that WTC was attacked. He couldn't get thru to me or anyone in the US from the plane..so he called friends back in Israel who told him about the towers collapsing...so he thought that i was dead.

As sad and terrifying as this day was for me i learned and changed so much from it. I learned to always say I love you. I learned that life is short and you never know when your time is up so go out and enjoy it. Do things today that are on your life list. I have gone skydiving, got a motorcycle, took up a hobby i love and traveled to places like Israel that i was always more scared of going. I laugh because the terrorists didn't win with me...if anything they made my life better and by not living in fear they have lost. I will never forget or forgive. This was not some accident or act of war...this was an act of hate...an act so cold & calculated that murdured so many...i hate when they say..so and so was killed on 9-11....i think they should state what truly happened...that they were murdered by someone who hated.

My heart goes out to all who lost someone that day...every 9-11 I cry as I watch the name readings and video from that day..and many other days of the year i cry when i remember...but i take comfort in the chances before me to make my life something better and to give back to those around me.
