A CRACKED TOOTH!! OH NO!!

About a month ago I had cracked my tooth eating a starburst. The dentist put a temp filling in and I had appt on the 26th for the exam. Now after lunch I was feeling something on the other side and low and behold I think part of that filling came out! What the hell??? I called the dentist office and they can't get me in till Tuesday at 10am..but maybe I can get in on Monday if I call tomorrow and see if there is any cancellations!!! I am not in pain..at least not yet! So what can I do in the mean time..scared of what can happen within 4-5 days! Any suggestions? Has this happened to any of you?

DH is never going to believe me when I tell him! I'm just a walking disaster!!!!

My sister recently lost a filling. Until DH could fill it for her, he said that the only thing she could really do would be to use anbesol (if there was any pain) and buy one of those temporary filling kits from the pharmacy. Not sure if it would work with a cracked tooth, though.

I hope someone cancels so your dentist can get you in sooner!

Me too!!! It looks more like the filling came out! Just worried about an infection! I really hope that there is a cancellation..I really don't want to take time off of work for this! GRR!!!

DAMN those Kettle Potato Chips! I guarantee that is what caused it!!! I was in the mood for them..I should of stuck to the Brownie!!

Uh Oh what happened to you? It's on my right side 4 or 5th tooth back a little roughness on top but not rubbing on my tongue like last time!

Afraid to buy over the counter stuff to pack it. Do you think that is safe? I mean I would do it if I knew it was safe and easy to do!!

get some wax....fill it in the hole

u dont want food or liquuids getting in there

till u can get to the dentist try to chew on the other side

DH used that on me once when I lost a filling (right before our last session of pre Cana). He said it would be fine for me to use as a short-term thing to tide me over until I could get into his office to have it fixed properly. It was pretty simple to do. If you're concerned, though, just ask your dentist what he would recommend.

Sorry to be contrary Gina, but DH has told me not to do that. He said that the wax can be hard to get out and might require more drilling, etc. before the tooth can be refilled.

Gina, what did you use? Meg I saw your reply. What happened in your case! I hat that the dentist can't get me in sooner! I am hoping for Monday! I have no pain now, so that's good!!!!

But I am weary about doing this, while it could be a missing filling it could be also a cracked tooth right? And I shouldn't use that Temp Filling kit, correct?

My tooth wasn't cracked, the filling just came out. DH HATED pre cana and kept joking that he was going to have a friend call with a dental 'emergency' as an excuse to leave early. Murphy's law . . . I went to floss after eating dinner before we headed out and my filling came out! It was a Sunday night and I wasn't going to make him open the office and fill the tooth without an assistant or anything, so we just stopped at the store and picked up one of those temporary filling kits at the drug store. They use oil of clove as an ingredient in those things, which burned my lips like a son of a gun, but at least I didn't have a gaping hole in my tooth until DH could fix it properly. (of course, I say it was a gaping hole, he says it was just a tiny filling).

I'm surprised that your dentist can't squeeze you in , even if just to put another temporary filling in, sooner than Tuesday. I'd try calling back and telling them that you're in a lot of pain, etc. to see if they can do anything.
