Hi! We are in the process of booking our Hawaii honeymoon.
Originally we wanted to stay at the Hyatt in Kauii (we are staying at the Hyatt in Maui) b/c we've heard how beautiful it is, but it will be under construction so we are reconsidering (even though they say it is out of view of guests)
We were thinking of staying at the Princeville OR the Sheraton. We are afraid of the Princeville b/c we heard (and through searches found) that it rains a lot there, and we don't want that, but we hear it is terrific there. And, does anyone know if the bathrooms with Marble and huge windows are in EVeRY room or just suites?
We don't really know too much about the Sheraton but would love to hear things....or anywhere else anyone has stayed in Kuaii.
One last question, what is the average overall spent while IN Hawaii? We plan to do the day trip to Oahu and helicopter ride etc.
Sorry for all the questions, we really appreciate your help.

Re: A Few Hawaii Questions
We stayed at the princeville a few years ago. It is the most amazing place we have ever stayed at. And we travel a lot. It does rain, but not like NY rain. You get a shower just about every afternoon. No big deal. The sun is still shining when this happens! You won't be sorry at the princeville! I can't tell you about the reg. rooms, as we had a jr. suite. We still talk about the bathroom to this day!!! Wish I was in that tub right now! I have never seen anything like it before or since. We stayed at the Hyatt on Kauaii too. Liked the princeville better. You can always drive around to the other side of the island! Good luck & happy planning! Deb
Edited to add we budget between 5 and 6 thousand, but we go luxury all the way!

Re: A Few Hawaii Questions
We stayed at Hyatt Kauaii and liked it much more than Hyatt Mauii. Such a beautiful hotel. I can't imagine that any renovations would be planned that would inconvenience guests. You probably wouldn't even have any idea that it was happening! This place is a class act. We went up to Princeville & liked Hyatt better ... It wasn't our style. It was also about an hour away from everything.
We spent alot of money in kauaii. We did quite a few activities and treated ourselves well there. We had a spa treatment in Anara spa, did a helicopter tour ...Kauaii is the best place to do it .... and took a half day snorkel cruise. We also ate at very good restaurants including the hotel restaurants which are amazing!!
If you need to do some reading .. which I recommend, get this book ... Hawaii for Dummies by Fromer. It was such a great resource. You'll be able to make your plans b/f you go & even save some money! This is an amazon link but you can get it at Buy.com also a little cheaper!
Betty, we stayed at the Hyatt while on our HM in Hawaii. But, we drove to where the Princeville is - the place is just gorgeous! The whole area is very beautiful - lush with mouontains, etc..It did seem more humid up there, although it didn't rain while we were there. But I'm sure, as debbus says, that the rain is only temporary. You can always drive to a 'sunnier' spot. Also, just wanted to add that one of the beaches a little further out from where the Princeville is were one of the most beautiful I had seen in Hawaii - white sand and turquoise water. If I were to go back, I would probably stay there next time.

Re: A Few Hawaii Questions
I stayed at the Hyatt in Kauai last year - it is so gorgeous and they treat their guests so wonderfully that I can't imagine the construction would be an inconvenience. The pools and the grounds are amazing, and our room was beautiful, with a private balcony - they upgraded us to a better view than was included in our package since we were honeymooners. The restaurants in the hotel are great too. We still talk about the days we spent here all the time, almost one year later! I know you asked for other recommendations, but I just had to put my two cents in about the Hyatt!

Re: A Few Hawaii Questions
Hi Betty. We stayed at the Sheraton in Kaui and loved it, and have no complaints. But we're not into fancy resorts or spas. If you're considering the the Princeville I think you might be a little (just a little) disappointed with the Sheraton in comparison.
Hope this helps. You can't really go wrong on Kaui though

Re: A Few Hawaii Questions
I have almost the exact opinion as Christine. I stayed at the Hyatt and drove to the Princeville and walked around the grounds. The Princeville is a gorgeous, lavish hotel but not my style. (Actually, I used the lobby bathroom and it wasn't clean at all for a hotel of this quality - surprised me.)
I couldn't imagine that the renovations would be done at the Hyatt in such away that it would inconvenience or even be majorly noticable to guests. But I can also understand your concern. In Maui, I stayed at the Grand Wailea and there were some minor renovations going on (I did not know prior to booking). I really didn't see much going on at all (a painter walk thru every now and then or the smell of fresh paint here and there.)
As far as weather, the day we drove to the Princeville, it was sunny and bright by the Hyatt but as we drove to the Princeville it got hazy and humid - looked like it would eventually either rain or burn off. It wasn't too bad but definitely different. It was about 12-1pm.
Spending money - I would say in the area of $3,000 - but to tell you the truth I am not sure and we did have some gift certificates that we got as wedding gifts from family members. We did the helicopter ride, ate at alot of great ($$) restaurants and did a bunch of activities (luau, snorkeling, etc.) I also did the helicopter ride in Kauai and it was amazing so of course I am biased and say that is the best place to do it!!!
Let us know if you have more questions! Good Luck. I am sure wherever you decide to stay will be wonderful.

Re: A Few Hawaii Questions
Thank you all for your opinions, they are VERY much appreciated!!
This is all so confusing. FH is the one who wants to stay at the Princeville, I'd rather spend the $$ elsewhere (like on activities). I really want to stay at the Hyatt but I'm just a little afraid. I called 800 Hyatt and they said they are doing room renovations and a new roof. With my luck they'll be renovating the room next door . They said it will be out of view of guests but of course they will say that. I have a friend who stayed there and absolutely LOVED it.
I also wouldn't mind staying at the Sheraton. It looks nice (not a high rise) and I don't need a phenominal room - I figure we won't be spending too much time there anyway. I just want it to be clean and I MUST HAVE A BALCONY..we LOVE to sit on the balcony at night.
I'm giving FH all the info and letting HIM make the decision. I don't want to pick it and then him be unhappy, if he picks it then he can't blame me.
Thanks again everyone....we'll be making a decision soon
