I haven't posted in a while and am just catching up on all the posts...I hope everyone had a great New Year's. I'm sorry this isn't wedding-related, but I was wondering if anyone is a nurse?
With wedding plans done and total boredom at my job, I've been seriously considering going back to school for a bachelor degree (I currently have an A.A.S. from Nassau). The only thing I'm interested in possibly, is Nursing.
I was hoping if anyone is a nurse and wouldn't mind taking a few minutes to share their experience/answer a few questions, I would be so appreciative. My email is [email protected]
Best,
Linda

I`m not a nurse either, but I think it takes a lot of guts to realize you`re not all that satisfied in what you`re doing and actually consider making a change. Sometimes it`s just so easy to stay where we are, that we don`t bother trying other things.
Good luck with your new venture. Nursing seems like it would be such a rewarding challenge .. sure there`ll be the downside, but there is such a big upside in being able to make such a difference.

Hi Linda
I am a nurse (Associates degree from Farmingdale) and have been in the profession for about 10 years. I am on maternity right now (I have written before about my baby and her christening)but I have been thinking about going back per diem. It is true there is a nursing shortage right now. Nursing is a job that really takes it out of you heart and soul...you need to be able to react at a moments notice to possibly save a life or be ready to hold someones hand as they take their final breath. You need to be strong to comfort a grieving family when their child dies as well as when the family is angry at their doctor or just the world because of their illness. It is rewarding but also frustrating. I worked with Pediatric AIDs cases at Stonybrook and had to put alot of my personal feelings aside when mothers would bring in their kids addicted to crack because they couldn`t stop doing drugs while pregnant. I have held a premature baby in my hands as its mother said her last goodbye and I have performed CPR on a man whose brain stopped functioning a long time ago...the family just couldn`t let go. Nursing is hard but I have also seen new healthy lives come into the world and cancer in young children go into remission. I have comforted and taught new mothers who are insecure about new motherhood and have seen them flourish.
What else can I say about nursing???? oopps...Sorry this is so long....

Thank you so much for your input... if you wouldn't mind, I would love to email you a few more questions I had.
I have thought hard about it and whether I could take the emotional aspect of such a demanding job. I feel I could do it emotionally, but am more worried about the physical aspects. I'd truly appreciate if you had a few moments to email me at [email protected] but understand u must be very busy!
Either way,thank u for the input. :)

a newlywed considering a new career....
I haven''t been on this board for sometime too but decided to check out what you girls have been up to. I recently lost my job and have not been able to find another one. I too have decided to go back to school and take up nursing! With the economy the way it is now and since there''s such a high demand for nurses I decided it would be the best move for me. Also, my husband and I are considering starting a family and as a nurse there''s a lot more flexibility with your schedule. I''m interested to find out where you''ll be going to school. I''m currently taking some prerequisite courses at Nassau but am trying to get into Stonybrook this summer.

How funny! I will be taking classes at Nassau this summer. I couldn't work it out for the spring unfortunately. I have to take A&P 1 and 11 etc. Pls email me at [email protected]. I am also looking into stonybrook, and feel the same way. It will provide job security, flexible hours, and I'll be helping people. Hope to hear from you!
