A plea for end of life planning

Ladies, I know this may seem crazy, but I just needed to post about end of life planning. This Florida feeding tube case has really upset me. Regardless of what your or my opinion is about the case, I urge you to use it as impetus to write a living will and health care proxy. I know we are all young, and think this end of life stuff is very far away, but this woman was like 26 when she went into a coma- it can happen to anyone. I have seen too many dramas in the hospital with families who don't know their loved one's wishes- everyone deserves to die or live on in dignity based on what they wanted, not what their parent, spouse, or imagine GOVERNOR wants. Please, please do this for yourself and your DH and children. And urge your parents to do it too.

I found a fairly good source of info on it at the Family Caregiver Alliance web site.

Re: A plea for end of life planning

Thank you for the info. My DH and I were discussing the very same thing when we heard about the Florida case. It's never easy to talk about these types of things, but they are essential.

Thanks again!

Re: A plea for end of life planning

This is very important info and everyone should look into this. Do not assume that your wishes will be respected just because you tell your spouse or your parents what you want. You need it in writing!!!

The best way to assure yourself that you will have the final say is to get both a Living Will and a Health Care Proxy. You need both in New York to have the fdinal say about your own life!!!

Also newlyweds should speak to an attorney and have a will drawn up. This is important especially if you own a home or other property and even more important when you have children.
