A question for the already married..

A question for the already married..

I was wondering what amount of people replied no to your wedding. We are really , really close to the maximum for our room, and we can move it to a bigger room if we guarantee more people, whcih we may or may not end up having depending on the responses. Just wanted to get an idea of how others did on total yes' to total inviter.

I invited 160 ish and had 107 ish... all of our single friends/colleagues came dateless, although I invited them w/ guests. These numbers start to fade after a year! LOL

What room did you book at Coral House? I got married there last October and had the Colonial Skylight room. How many are on your guest list?

We invited about 180 people, and we had 125 people come. Most of the no's we were already expecting. Not all of them though! They were family I haven't heard from for many years, but had to invite, you know!

We are now in the Nantucket room but may move to the Americana.

Kathi,
How was everything there. The food was so good at the tasting. Is there anything to watch out for, etc. ?

Re: A question for the already married..

I think the Nantucket Deck room is too small for 150!!! We had our cocktail hour in there and it was perfect for under 110 people. Where is your cocktail hour? Honestly, if you can get the Americana room w/ 150 guarantee, I think you should do it. Although, that's a very big room. I think it holds up to 250!! You definitely don't want there to be TOO much room!! Is the Colonial Skylight room booked already??

To answer your question about the wedding itself, everything was great! Frank was our maitre'd and frankly, no pun intended, he wasn't 'fabulous'. I didn't see much of him. Also, I hired a ladies room attendant for the day (pet peeve of mine), and she was in the WRONG bathroom until almost 2 hours into my wedding. Hello?? The only way I knew that was because I peeked into the ladies room, and saw the toilet overflowing!! If you do a search, you'll find lots of my details, including my menu, I think!

We get to eat our cake on Monday!! YAY!! I don't remember what it tastes like since I only had a bite at the wedding but I remember it was yummy!!

Feel free to ask any questions.

Kathi,

We are going to be in Nassau tomorrow house hunting, so we are going to stop by there to look again at all the rooms. We need to make a decision asap. I'll let you know as soon as i find out myself

Congrats on the almost 1 yr anniversary

Re: A question for the already married..

Kathi,

Just spoke to the Coral house again and I misunderstood. We would need to guarantee 200 for the Americana room. I think we are going to switch though because we had taken some off the list to keep it down. If we add them on the total invited comes to like 220, so even if we fall short it won't be by too much. Thanks for all your imput.

Sorry to chime in but I wanted you to know I booked The American Room for a Saturday evening in May. I had to guarentee 200 people.

You're welcome!! Will they negotiate a bit more on the guarantee?? A 10% decline rate is very ambitious!!

I would try to get them to go to 175/180 just in case. After all, it's not likely that someone is going to book a 200+ person party in December at this late date. (Showers, Baptisms, etc. are typically in the smaller rooms).

I think it's great that you can book the bigger room, but I'd definitely suggest a 180 guarantee. Paying for 10+ empty seats really adds up!! It definitely doesn't hurt to ask!!

Good luck!!

Re: A question for the already married..

We invited 235 and had about 155 show up. We had about 10 people cancel at the last minute, so we paid for people that weren't there.
We had about a 25% 'no' return, so booking the larger room may not be a good idea.

Re: A question for the already married..

I had numbers like Vicki.. invited 240 and 155 showedup...

the nos were mostly guests that came dateless (we added in possible guests to the numbers) and DHs family from Spain and Mexico...

Re: A question for the already married..

We invited about 225-230 and we ended up with 160. A lot of out-of-towners didn't come at the last minute, but thankfully, I didn't count on them in the first place!

We invited 225 and wound up with 125. We also got married on LI, and most of my selfish family DID NOT want to make the trip from Westchester

From Westchester! Not like they had to travel hours upon hours! People are so lame sometimes!!!

We invited 199 and had 150 (but then 10 no-shows so paid for 150 but only had 140 )

Re: A question for the already married../DDUNNE

We originally had about 185 and were booked in a room for 180 max. (160 guarantee) We were counting on some no-shows but then some of the expected no-shows started asking about hotels and making arrangements for places to stay, and our list grew with some additions, so we moved to a bigger room and increased the guarantee to 175 and the guest list to about 220.

You guessed it, the group that was asking the details all ended up responding NO! We ended up with about 170 or so - would have been just fine in the smaller room.

I'm still touched though when I think about my cousin who was one of the first to 'rsvp' when my aunt told him the date - about 8 months ahead of the wedding. He said he and his girlfriend would be there - and they were - all the way from Barrow, Alaska. Barrow is so far north you can't get any further north - only 6 miles of road in the town and you have to fly in and out year round, but he was at my wedding! (I'm saving up now, because we're expecting the invite to a wedding in Fairbanks sometime in the near future. )

Were you comfortable in the Colonial Skylight Room at the Coral House? We booked it thinking we would only have 75-100 guests. Now we are looking at around 110 and thinking that the room might be crowded. The room next store is a little bigger but was already booked when we went to get it.

Re: A question for the already married..

we invited 240, 20 of which we knew would be no's, so I consider us inviting 220. We had about 185 guests. they say that 20% is a usual no percentage, in this case it was!
