A tale of of soup, ladies & gentleman...

A tale of of soup, ladies & gentleman...

Once upon a time, there were princes who who were handsome, strong and bravely slayed dragons to prove their worth to their lady loves. Apparently Hallmark had not been invented yet.

Dreaming of these studly souls were beautiful princesses of sweetness and light, with so much fluff in both head and heart that one balanced the other. They awaited their Princes to bring them their happily ever after with a kiss through the rose bushes after 100 years, and were content to even hang out with a few frogs while they waited for him to arrive.

In today’s modern age we don’t have nearly as many Happily ever Afters and the question is always WHY? Why don’t we still have flashes of light that brighten the sky like A Macy’s Fourth of July, and that “one time, waaaaaay over the fence and it’s GONE feeling?”

We all want those kisses that make our leg pop up and allow us a glimpse into what it is like to be THAT girl. And yet, statistics say that fewer and fewer women each year ARE that girl.

What’s to blame? Or who is to blame? Men for becoming more toad than Prince? Woman for becoming more Wicked witch than Cinderella? Round and round that question goes and where it stops…

Soup.

Yep ya heard me. Mushroom bisque soup with a savory broth of garlic and shitatke musrooms sliced so thin its Heaven on the tongue.

Why Soup? Because it provided the perfect catalyst for the reason men and women keep missing that happily ever after and end up with a FOUL! Instead of one straight shot over that fence and into the peaceful beyond. The reason? Men have forgotten to be men and women have forgotten to be ladies.

Case in point.

As I exited Au bon pain with both my soup and hunk of hearty, healthy bread, I was assaulted by the door the man in front of me failed to hold open FOR me as I walked through, despite his seeing me there right on his heels. This was no gentle knight of Arthur’s court, but perhaps he could have polished up his armor more readily had I not taken the ladylike approach of “Real nice ya @ss clown!”

I don’t think Snow White would have approved, but then again she did have a thing for dwarves.

I received a dirty look, he received a graceful flick of my wrist as I released the bird, and it was on to the next 10 steps out the door and onto the street which took me past a trio of men who were more musky muskrats than Musketeers. Rather than simply smiling in a friendly manner at the women they found attractive despite mussed hair and released bird, they stared, looked away, stared again and waited till it was not her ears that accepted their ‘appreciation;’

“Nice soup ya got there . Mmm mm mm.”

Rather than having their compliment of her beauty shouted over the rooftops like Prince Charming waving his sword and shaking the fist holding the dragon’s head, they whispered like gremlins in the shadow with the creepy dude’s stuttered “P-p-preciouuus.”

Afore mentioned object of their sudden affection (me) turned and with hearty hunk o’ bread brandished high and proud as any modern Princess , elegantly reprimanded them with calm and genteel class…..

“Way to go, Romeo. You got yourself the d*ckweed of the day award.” (Applause with one hand and bread in the other) “Bet your mama’sreaaaaal proud.’

More birds were released though alas, non were the white doves of a love everlasting.

And so I ask…. Gentleman and ladies….couldn’t we all use a few more?
