I am sorry, ABC, NBC, CBS they have always been free. They were the networks that you could get with an antenna and they make by far the most money from advertisements. They should not be asking for fees for programming. This time its not Cablevision who is wrong, its ABC. Who does ABC think will eat the fees, the customers. And all our bills are hight enough. All my favorite shows are on ABC but I have to tell you I don't even have Cablevision (but my parents do) and I am considering boycotting them. Even the Oscars and for me (a film major) that is a huge thing to say. Its a precedence they should not be setting.

I read that Cablevision is already charging customers a $14 fee for the station...and thats what ABC is going after. Since they currently dont charge Cablevision anything, they want the royalties that they discovered they are charging the customers anyway

Disney is seeking an additional $40 million a year. They already pay ABC $200 million a year.
These were stations that were supposed to be free to everyone. That with an antenna (only two years ago) you could access without paying a Cable company.

This is what's happening...its actually STILL Cablevision being jerks. We have always been charged for ABC even though its offered to Cablevision at no cost....ABC found out and now they are saying if Cablevision is going to charge for something they get for free, then they should get the money.
Stupid fckn Cablevision all over again...

Respectfully, I could not possibly disagree more. I don't know what gives people a sense of entitlement, that networks should be free when it does cost money to maintain programming. The only network ever really designed to be free is PBS. Make no mistake, Cablevision, just like any other cable company profits. They charge ridiculous amounts in comparison to what they actually pay the networks and there is no reason that they should have to increase everyone's bill.
Also, there are two different sides to this story. ABC claims that cable does not pay, they just charge us and Cablevision claims that they pay $200 million. The way that their website is worded about the parent company, makes me think that some of that may be for other premium networks such as the ESPN cluster and the Disney channel, not ABC.

Just wanted to say that if ABC does go dark this weekend it is because ABC pulled the plug...not Cablevision.
Just like the Scripps fiasco. It was Scripps that pulled HGTV/Food...not Cablevision.

I don't care whose fault it is, I just want a resolution. These are both multi million dollar companies fighting because one is more greedy than the next. And you know who suffers, us. The economy s ucks, a lot of people can't afford any recreation other than watching tv. It's all nonsense as far as I'm concerned.

The only series I watch is Desperate Housewives, and DH doesn't really like me using the computer to watch things online...so I'll be pretty upset if this comes to fruition. Or I'll go over to my parent's and use my sister's computer LOL.
